Hamas/Israel conflict: news and discussion

Bollocks. Where was all this outrage on here on October 7th last year?

IIRC there was a lot of horror expressed over the attacks and references to them as terrorism, but also tempered by reminders to stay rational and not to let the spectacular and barbaric nature of October 7th cause us to lose sight of the suffering inflicted to Palestinians on a daily basis, and there was also anxieties expressed over what Israeli response would mean for Palestinians and the region. Meanwhile you were banging the drum for anything but inchoate rage and demand for ruthless vengeance as hypocritical far-left terrorist-loving anti-Semitism.

Given less than a year later we have the complete desolation and destruction of North Gaza, a death toll of up to 200,000 Palestinians and rising, and almost everyone in Gaza displaced with the risk of the war expanding into Lebanon - with very real risks of it mushrooming into a regional or even global conflict if it drags the US into a direct conflict with Iran - I think the mainstream response of posters on this thread has aged rather better than your response at the time.

Does Lebanon have an army apart from Hezbollah?
Yes, the Lebanese Army and various other sectarian paramilitary groups. The latter are mostly less powerful than they were during the civil wars in the 1970s and 1980s

That's because you are choosing to base your (inaccurate) review on an agenda. I predicted pretty much exactly what the Israeli response would be.
You may have predicted it but you didn't seem concerned about the coming enormous death toll. You seemed far more concerned about hypocrisy hunting by attacking people who did express concern over the implications of October 7th more than the act itself.

Your stance is equivalent to banging on about the Serbian civilians killed by Bosniak troops in the midst of Srebrenica massacre.

Honestly I didn't pay that much attention to Gaza and found the left's obsession with it a distraction from more relevant issues - until Israel started cutting off their water supply as a response to October 7th. That put things into a new light for me and set alarms off in my head about the coming genocide. My agenda is simply concern over a humanitarian disaster.

So am I.

This is low tech stuff, it's not going to be the equipment they use to send their most sensitive stuff on - I'm puzzled why they'd buy it rather than just accept freebies.
Maybe they were freebies. The supply chain was utterly compromised at some point.
Bowman was 20 years late but none of it exploded

I was watching some of the footage of the pagers going off on Al-Jazeera.

Can't say my first thought was "they go pop"

And to find it funny.

I see now Israel have done successful attack on Hezbollah suddenly posters on this thread have returned who have been absent for months.

Before all this started I had been reading about British empire.

I didn't really know much about the Palestine/ Israel conflict. So set myself task to read up more about it. And left off from Empire. Though been reading Line in the Sand which shows British empire role in creating this conflict.

If that's living in a bubble so be it.

Given what's happened over last year and my reading I don't have lot of time for Zionism. Less and less as this has gone on.

Are you suggesting that they were not members of the IRA?

They had no bomb.
No arms. No guns
They were just shot dead.
Read up a bit Spymaster ..

Everyone's right to life shall be protected by law.

3 unarmed volunteers were shot dead.no effort to arrest them.
Just shoot to kill policy.

The aftermath was horrendous here.

Anyway.. watch the documentary

Apart from the casualties Hezbollah operatives are not going to be able to trust any of their communications devices atm.

I would think Israel is going to follow these pager/walkie talkie attacks up with a full on assault while they have the advantage.

Israel declares start of 'new phase' of war

Israel’s defence minister, Yoav Gallant, has declared the start of a “new phase” of the war with a focus on the northern front against Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon.

Gallant, speaking to Israeli troops on Wednesday, did not mention the explosions of devices in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday.

But he praised the work of Israel’s army and security agencies, noting that the “results are very impressive”, the Associated Press reported.

“The center of gravity is moving north. We are diverting forces, resources and energy toward the north,” Gallant said, according to the Times of Israel.

UN rapporteurs condemn the double standards of western countries and Israel governments attacks on UN. As that is the case and Israel , as they put it, has zero respect for UN then they question it's membership of UN.

Albanese was joined by three other UN independent experts who accused Western countries of hypocrisy and double standards, for example by being more vocal about human rights violations by Russia since its invasion of Ukraine than about Israel’s ac

I think suspending Israel membership of UN would be good idea.

Present government has nothing but contempt for international law and UN Institutions. So kick it out.
