The longer this goes on the more the US looks either weaker or behind the whole clusterfuck. And while people in the middle east may be happy to chuck rockets at the near enemy for the time being, the far enemy will doubtless be targeted for its complicity at some point

I'd guess because some of those people already have some kind of public profile so showing their faces doesn't matter, while others don't so showing their faces in media could open them up to threats they might not be prepared to face. Or their role is secret. Or maybe they asked to be blurred out.

I do think it's more 1 than 2 or even 3.

US will send a missile defense system and troops to run it to Israel to aid defense against Iran

The Pentagon says the United States will send a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense battery to Israel along with troops needed to operate it.

What do they tell us?

Taken together, the two documents are a classified US assessment of Israel’s preparations to hit targets in Iran, based on intelligence analysed on 15-16 October by the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

What features prominently is the mention of two Air Launched Ballistic Missile (ABLM) systems: Golden Horizon and Rocks.

Rocks is a long-range missile system made by the Israeli company Rafael and designed to hit a variety of targets both above and below ground. Golden Horizon is thought to refer to the Blue Sparrow missile system with a range of around 2,000km (1,240 miles).

The significance of this is that it would indicate that the Israeli Air Force is planning to carry out a similar but greatly expanded version of its ABLM attack on an Iranian radar site near Isfahan in April.

By launching these weapons from long range and far from Iran’s borders it would avoid the need for Israeli warplanes to overfly certain countries in the region like Jordan.

The documents also report no sign of any preparations by Israel to activate its nuclear deterrent.

At the request of Israel, the US government never publicly acknowledges that its close ally Israel even possesses nuclear weapons, so this has caused some embarrassment in Washington.

Saudi Arabia held military exercises with Iran and other countries recently in the Sea of Oman, the Saudi defence ministry spokesman said in a statement to AFP on Wednesday.

"The Royal Saudi Naval Forces had recently concluded a joint naval exercise with the Iranian Naval Forces alongside other countries in the Sea of Oman," Saudi Brigadier General Turki al-Malki, said.

The exercises show how far Gulf states are going to distance themselves from Israel, as the region waits for a potential Israeli strike on Iran.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have patched up bitter relations in recent years.
