Steve Bell has been apparently been sacked by The Guardian for this cartoon.

It's amazing how many people fail to grasp that the Ukraine war, for example, is, at root, yet another money making scheme for the usual crew on both sides. Now the meat grinder is in motion yet again in the middle east. Where will it manifest itself after this?

Iran.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but this does seem incredibly fishy. Gaza is tiny. And they were training and planning for years according to that video. How could that go undetected.
For those of us active during the Miners Strike in the 80s it is pretty easy to understand how it went undetected. Governments that rely on telecoms surveillance are totally vulnerable to a combination of misinformation over high tech media and covert communication by low tech methods. What used to happen is that we would arrange demos over the phones we knew were tapped (telephone engineers are generally a thoroughly unionised set of people), and then by word of mouth let people know there would actually be a party at a place overlooking the site of the supposed demo. We would then sip a few beers while watching confused plod wandering around trying to work out what was going on. We had to make our own entertainment in the olden days.

I'd feel weird about donating to a charity that mentions any specific religion in their title. :hmm: I'm sure they are okay, but it just doesn't sit that well with me...

Yes, watch out for those Samaritans with their mountain top animal sacrifices.

No I don’t. I mean Hamas. I’m talking about the reality of any negotiated settlement; whether we like it or not it’s not going to happen while BN leads Israel (and the reactionary religious right) and Hamas are still existing.

Outside Arab parties there are zero leftwing members of the Knesset who are interested in serious negotiations. Metetz have zero MKs. Labour have just 4 and they're no better than Likud/Netanyahu. Jewish Israelis are not voting for a negotiated settlement and that's with a Palestinian Authority that's willing to capitulate.

At least some on the left aren't cheering on Hamas, these aren't perfect but better than meaningless slogans as 'solutions' or 'positions'.

Hate to break it to you but they’ve always been irrelevant nutters.
At the time they appeared to be the most relevant socialist party which is why I joined. None of the other left of Labour alternatives were particularly relevant either and all have their share of nutters.

Although looking back through their website for older articles on Hamas it seems their support for them indeed isn't new, but I was unaware of their stance at the time.

Yep, they'll win Twitter with that one!

Is there any domestic pressure for a settlement, rather than domestic pressure for new settlements?

And from the CWO:

Not unsurprising, but Iran is threatening to get involved, if attacks on Gaza are not stopped, Aljazeera just showed an interview with a high up Iranian diplomat saying, 'hands on the trigger'.

It's covered by this source -

The recent aggression against Palestinians by Israeli forces have left Iran worried. Tehran has now issued a stern warning to Israel saying other parties are ready to act if it does not stop the aggression.

According to the Fars news agency, Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that the hands of all other parties in the region are on the trigger if Zionist aggressions do not stop.
