Hamas/Israel conflict: news and discussion

I don't need to see pics of dead babies. I believe Hamas did evil. I believe there will be dead kids on both sides. Too many.
the a/c is emetic enough even without finding dead baby pics

both these pictures are entirely safe for work and show netanyahu with the prime minister of india

Yep. Although not that the republicans aren't trying but I doubt this element has been emboldened in the US quite to the extent it has in parts of Israel. There are places where women and men have to walk on separate sides of the street and on separate parts of buses ffs. And quite a few incidents where fundamentalist men have spat on little girls going to school.

That's pretty awful.

I think these people get emboldened when they feel like they've got the numbers to call for backup, if they get some pushback.

I have no desire to see such pictures at all, come on I know Netanyahu is a cunt and loves to stir the pot but what must the families think of this? Sweet Jesus the one thing we can all hope for is this fucker is one of the many that's going to get killed over the next few months.

There's a photo now on the State of Israel's official Twitter account @Israel ( at least that's what the account describes itself as) and the Jewish Post has come out with a statement saying that it has seen photographic evidence. The CNN journalist and another journalists had withdrawn tweets about decapitated babies earlier today due to the Israeli government refusing to confirm that they had evidence.

Unfortunately, I have also seen photos of dead Palestinian babies from yesterday's bombing. They won't be the last either. It's a horrible depressing world

You would think the family have been asked and given permission tbh if that's what you mean.

Great that we have moved on from demanding evidence of how babies were killed to criticising the publication of that evidence.

What would happen if the State of Israel had decided to not attack the people and the infrastructure of the Gaza Strip in response to the attacks by Hamas?

I went back to the Ukraine thread from 2014 around the time of the Union Building fire, as well as the Odessa massacre specific thread and I'm not sure it was quite as you described.

There were plenty of comments from Casually Red calling on Putin to send in the tanks, some nonsense from Kesher about how RT is a perfectly good source, (he subsequently got banned for being a nonce), a funny comment from Camouflage who sarcastically made fun of those who thought Adolf Putin was cooking it all up as a scheme to grab Ukrainian territory, some really bizarre stuff from spartacuslove (also since banned) denying the existence of Ukraine as a country at all and theorising that WW2 was one big Zionist conspiracy, all amidst a whole lot of sterling work from butchersapron and frogwoman (among others) demonstrating the prevalence of fascists on the anti-Maidan, pro-Russia side as well as within the ranks of Azov etc.

If anything has changed, it's almost totally been for the better.

IRL I used to know a guy who was so far up Assad’s arse he got free trips to the parts of the country not on fire and bombed to rubble to spread the news.

The 2010s were a wild ride

They would instead have to negotiate the release of the hostages. No government would ever submit to such an embarrassment when mass murder is there as an alternative, though.

I've never demanded evidence of how babies were killed, I've been happy (no well willing, happy isn't really a suitable word) to take the word of CNN or the BBC rather than frothing fuckwits on twitter. I'm no defender of Hamas and their actions. But what the hell is anyone thinking posting pictures of beheaded kids on an official government website? That is just pure dog whistling and rabble rousing without regard to the fact that a lot of people this turd is supposed to represent are grieving for their missing and murdered loved ones.

not to mention clearly in breach of the twitter t&c

Only reason to do it is for garnering sympathy and support for the total flattening of Gaza.

I worked on the 2014 DEC Gaza Crisis Appeal, leading digital and content, one of my early jobs on the appeal was to secure a strong image to be the main image (called the hero image). This meant spending hours pouring over tens of thousands of images on places like Getty.

One still haunts me today, it was of a Palestinian man holding a shopping bag. The caption read "Father who lost his family in the bombing holds the pieces of his two year old daughter in a bag".

I saw much worse than that but that image of him standing amongst the rubble clutching that bag is seared onto my mind...

And many of those on the kibbutz and many other Israelis or their parents or grandparents would have been kicked out of their homes and off their land Europe or the Middle East. Do you have much awareness of that? Or do you just swallow the antiSemitic like that Israel is a European colonial entity created by greedy Jews?

The British, Soviets, the French spent much of the late 1940s overseeing the creation of new ethnic and religious states and deporting large groups of people who didn't fit in. Israel was created in the same way that Pakistan was, although probably with less bloodshed; and Poland which moved a hundred or more kilometres Westward and went from being 60% Roman Catholic to well over 90%.

From my reading of history of Israel - both by Jewish Israelis ( Ilan Pappe for example) and American Palestinian Rashid Khalidi -Israel is a settler colonial state. This isn't anti Semitic it's based on historical research. Both the people I mentioned I've read are respected historians.

I don't think it's historically accurate to compare The Partition with the Nakba / creation of Israel. For starters the Palestinians never ended up with a state

Also read Tom Segev history of the Palestine Mandate.

On European Jews. I've read Bloodlands by Snyder and Arno Meyer book on the Holocaust "why did the heavens not darken".

Also Snyders book The Reconstruction of Nations on Eastern Europe and nationalism.

And the documentary Shoah by Lanzmann I've seen. Among others.

So yes I do have awareness of the historical background.
