Hamas/Israel conflict: news and discussion

Allegedly a picture of Iranian sub-sonic drones on their way to Israel, flying over Najaf.

Robbed off twitter.

probably not yet, one would imagine they will coordinate the arrival of the drones and the missiles over whatever it is they are targeting to try and overwhelm the defence

That would be my assumption - I think the drones will take 6-8 hours to get there, the cruise missiles 1-2, and the BM's 20 minutes or so, so if you want to do a Time on Target attack, you'd sequence the launches so they all arrive at the same time.

The Israeli's have got enough missiles to defeat the attack, but whether they've enough launchers to get enough missiles in the air to cope with them all arriving in a 5 minute bracket is a different question...

Allegedly there's been a cyber attack on the IDF's air defence system, which may or may not be true, but it would fit both Iran's doctrine, and the 'overwhelm the defences' thing.

When Ayatollah Khamenei sounds reasonable, something really fucked up has happened. The consulate attack was the same day the IDF murdered those western aid workers btw, which was the point that the US went "hold on a fucking second" which they could have done AT ANY POINT BEFORE THIS.

Meanwhile Benny sounds like a Red Alert cut scene character:

Amazing how unreported it is that this is happening because Israel has been trying to start a fight with everyone because Bibi knows he's fucking done when the fighting stops.

My mother-in-law lives in Amman, which is a mere 40-odd km from Israel as the crow flies. During the first Gulf War they could see Saddam Hussein’s Scuds flying overhead. Needless to say everyone in Jordan right now is looking at the sky with much trepidation.

Probably why they are busy shooting down the first-launch wave over Syria and Jordan.

Is this Hamas winning on a strategic level,? Getting the situation to a point where Iran directly attacks Ireal.

Pretty much from the off that has always seemed to me their most likely overall objective. Not necessarily a direct Iran involvement, but to create a situation so untenable and to trigger Netanyahu to do his monstrous worst to the point when something gives. It’s not as if they would have realistically expected to win land concessions from holding hostages, let alone a military victory.

Al Jazeera’s live updates quoting Israeli media saying Iran has launched cruise missiles. No mention of ballistic missiles though.

October 7th was truly Israeli 9/11 as it's fatally undermined their very carefully constructed image to even the population of countries which are allied to them, their military response has been massively damaging and is causing a wider conflict in other theatres in the region to become inevitable but the US and UK have to act like actually all this is good.

TBF the US and UK statements from the top have both said they'll help Israel defend against this attack, but that no further escalation should take place. That sounds like the Israelis will be asked to take this one on the chin and will get no help with any attack on Iran.
