Hamas/Israel conflict: news and discussion

Forensic Architecture has published in depth study of Gaza

Called

A Cartography of Genocide.

I've looked at a bit of it. Done to a high standard with a lot of visuals of how Gaza has been changed and remodelled by IDF

I've posted up about the head of Forensic Architecture before.

Eyal Weizmann. An Israeli architect. I highly recommend his book on Architecture and Occupation of the West Bank

A fascinating look at how using the skills and practise of an Architect to shine new light on how occupation works. Even in mundane architectural details and planning rules.

In this new work on Gaza they make clear using visuals how the IDF have reconstructed Gaza for occupation. And how the destruction is not haphazard.

Using visuals - cartography- is good way to make clear how the IDF / Israeli government are setting about in systematic way to change Gaza.

Thanks. That looks interesting.
In Belfast during "The Troubles" new housing estates were designed with a view to countering insurgency, for example, crescents with no back exits.

The UN rapporteur on Palestine Francesca Albanese has made new report called Colonial Erasure

The short interview she goes into her report.

She argues that genocide can be inferred from the actions of the state. This is legitimate to do

That in this case this is a democratic state doing this. One with elections , the rule of law and separation of powers. None of this stopped this from happening.Other recent genocides as in Ex Yugoslavia are different in that sense. Israel is an established democracy. I thought this was interesting point. Why does this level of genocidal violence happen in what is a democracy?

She also argues that ideology has a place. She mentions Ilan Pappe on this. She says Israel is a settler colonial state. Not the first one by any means. But one doing this now in situation of the post WW2 building of international human rights law.

So shes not saying its just Netanyahu or a few rotten apples in the barrel.

But the genocide is systemic.

Not had a chance to look at her full report. Which I managed to find with difficulty. As some UN webpages do not appear to be working right. Its the pdf linked to this post.

She is a tough cookie. She has and is still getting a lot of stick. The usual ones alleging anti semitism.

With US wading in saying she should get the sack and she is an anti Semite.

Predictable accusation of anti semitism directed at someone sticking up for Palestinians. That is her job. And she is doing it properly

That's the problem with the UN. It keeps doing its job and sticking up for the rights of Palestinians.

UNWRA , UN special rapporteurs.

All there to attack/ undermine poor old Israel.

For all its flaws UN is an organisation that somehow produces good reports and gives people like Palestinians some support.

Support lacking from individual states like mine the UK

Her summary to the report Colonial Erasure:

In the present report, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in
the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, examines the
unfolding horrors in the occupied Palestinian territory. While the wholesale
destruction of Gaza continues unabated, other parts of the land have not been spared.
The violence that Israel has unleashed against the Palestinians post-7 October is not
happening in a vacuum, but is part of a long-term intentional, systematic, State-
organized forced displacement and replacement of the Palestinians. This trajectory
risks causing irreparable prejudice to the very existence of the Palestinian people in
Palestine. Member States must intervene now to prevent new atrocities that will
further scar human history

The member states that are intervening aren't the ones with any actual power over things. That shit starmer isn't going to do a bloody thing bar witter about both sides and international law while he ignores the uk's own responsibilities

I think the organisation of the UN is pretty useless, especially with the way the Security Council works, but it has some really good people working away in its agencies who aren't afraid to tell it as it is. People like Albanese are the people with true leadership qualities and unlike Starmer, Biden etc possess integrity and decency.
