The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

I have no idea what the Chair is meant to actually do but he does seem to do a lot of media, or at least till today and presumably helps run their national operations. So having him in a shit storm as well as PM seems like it'll have a negative impact on their abilities to make decisions

I saw these people today at a local event

Based on the South Devon Primary (trialled in Totnes, Monbiot wrote about in the guardian) it’s about getting a consensus of the best candidate to take on the Tories locally. I believe the Totnes outfit got as far as endorsing a candidate (whether anyone pays any attention is another thing). But Newton Abbot wasn’t as far down the road before the election was called.

Anyway the recommended outcome is to vote Lib Dem where I live  The Labour candidate is apparently 19 years old!

and Party of Women which is apparently a TERF split from Women's Equality Party.
Keep seeing this and don't think it's correct. It's Posie Parker's lot, who herself recently called for trans people to be excluded from housing and employment and who's supporters have just caused a big row in GC circles by attending Tommy Robinson's last rally, just to give an idea of what they're about. Much more virulent than a terf break off from WEP.

TBF, the LDs are best placed to beat the Tories down there, so it's logical to recommend them.

The 'i' has published an interesting survey, which is fairly well matched to my own thoughts, I have high hopes that things will improve with a Labour win, and low expectations that they will, but I do feel there's a good chance they will not make things worst, which I think would happen under the chaotic Tories.

Despite Labour’s large polling lead, and the expectation that the party will lead the next government, there appears to be little optimism from the public that Britain will improve significantly with Sir Keir in No 10.

On each of four crucial issues – the economy, public services, immigration and crime – no more than two in five voters said they expected a Labour victory would make the UK’s performance more impressive. On the economy, 35 per cent said it would improve and 33 per cent worse. On public services, 38 per cent predicted improvement and 26 per cent thought the opposite, while 29 per cent thought immigration would improve and 35 per cent said it would deteriorate. On crime, 26 per cent expected Britain to get better with 28 per cent saying it would deteriorate.

If the Conservatives do manage to be re-elected, the public tends to expect the UK to become worse in all four of those areas, with no more than a quarter predicting an improvement on any front.

Bit puzzled that 17% of people think the Tory campaign is doing well, I mean, WTF. :D

Personally I'm absolutely thrilled with now the conservative campaign is going

General Election 2024

Week One: The Farce of Rishi Sunak
Week Two: Labour vs Labour
Week Three: The Rise (... again) of Nigel Farage
Week Four: D-Day Crash Landings

Three to go, folks, stay strapped in.

The long version’s even better!!

That is straight out of Chris Morris’s Day Today isn’t it? Especially the way he speaks to him almost contemptuously when demanding he answers. I kind of love that some in the media aren’t treating them with undue respect anymore.
