UK general election - the U75 poll

That's interesting local anecdotal information, albeit that there are, of course, many other variables that can determine turn-outs. Simply looking roughly like a previous turn-out is not necessarily an indicator that all is well with the voter ID suppression. The broader picture does indicate plenty of evidence; the electoral commission's report from the 2023 locals reckoned that about 14k people were recorded as being turned away and not turning up again. The comparable figures this year won't be released for a while yet.

Are they collecting figures for those turned away, or is it just for those turned away that don't subsequently return?
Both.

But I suspect they’ll only report on the ones who didn’t come back.

ref the photo id bollocks ...

first of all - if you aren't already on the electoral roll, Please register for your vote [and go on the private list, the one they don't sell !]
if you don't already have an acceptable ID
best bet is to apply for a postal vote [and tick the until I tell you otherwise option]

second choice would be to apply for one of these ...

Just checked - the deadline for registering for a vote is 18th June 2024.

Do it online & get a postal vote [way less hassle !]

I'm not bothering. I'm not sure how the overseas expat postal vote things works. Presumably I could vote in my old constituency, but Poplar is usually solidly labour.
I just did my tax return which was 0 all the way through, except for 8 UK days...if I don't do taxation, I am not sure I should get the representation.
Well…I feel like I’m missing out on all the fun…

Your application to register as an overseas voter has been received by London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Anyone want to be my proxy?

My friendly candidate who stood last two times is no longer standing and we've got some empty suit with Labour Friends of Genocide splashed over everything. I really really hate my Tory MP but looks like Green or SCP for me now.

:D

TBF they may have good reasons. :hmm:

Although, be buggered if I can think of any, after the shit-show we've had over the last few years.
I quite enjoyed watching Ed Davey deliberately throwing himself into the open sewer that Lake Windermere has become.

I think this is my fourth GE in my current constituency, and I'm sure I've seen more Lib Dem posters and boards on houses this time than in previous years. That's tilting me towards them, as there seems to be a greater belief that they can actually usurp the Tory with a massive majority.

They can still fuck it up though.

They do love a good stakeboard.

Meanwhile in sunny Brixton I haven't seen a sign of the election. Although I guess some Labour members will put up their customary poster soon

bugger.,..I received confirmation of my Tower Hamlets postal code...maybe I could have applied for Clacton.
I’ve just got another letter, by email. The header starts “do not delete”. I’m sure this a ploy to deter postal voters…it just screams scam.

I’m sure the person is lovely. They sign their name with their professional qualifications..AEA(cert). First I thought, certified by the atomic energy authority..good to have a nuclear scientist running the show..but google suggests they are a certified aquarobics instructor. Good for them, but it’s strange to use letter after your name if it’s a less obvious connection, surely. I no longer use MRVC after my name..I’m no longer a member of the Ritzy Video Club.

Anyway, hopefully my postal votes are on their way. We will see if they get here in time .

Got my postal vote approved so I can register my support for the People's Spunking Cock from the comfort of my own home.

Then again thinking about it the post box is only about ten feet closer to my house than the polling station :(

Like Arnold J. Rimmer BSc SSc! Where those stood for Bronze Swimming Certificate and Silver Swimming Certificate.

I'm surprised he hasn't done all his stunts with placards - falling over backwards into a lake clutching a sign saying "Save our NHS" would get more of a message across.

Currently 55.6% voting "other" or principled cock caricaturists, whilst 44.4% are voting one flavour of Tory or another (Lab / Con / Lib Dem)

Much, much tighter than elections of yore on here. The spunking cock campaign workers are looking nervous but they feel like they may just have pulled it off...

Hold the front page: I've shifted from Won't Bother to Other (Transform). I'd like to apologise to Spunking Cock, with whom I briefly dallied.

You just made me measure mine on Google Earth. Polling Station 250m, post box 218m. Though as the crow flies the polling station (on street behind) is only 50m from the back of the flat. I could build a tunnel to save time.

I was going to vote Green but seeing that wally leader go on about how they will be bold and push to rejoin the EU puts me off. Not just because I disagree but because it shows such woeful political tact and such total unawareness of what's happening in Europe. Have they not followed the latest EU elections? People want radical change to address the shitness we are facing and that's the best they can come up with...

So I am back to undecided. But I do want to vote tbh.

Just out of interest, if left parties were dominant in the EU would that change your opinion?

not sure yet.

in a fairly safe tory seat that has got more safe following the gerrymandering.

lib dems are second - not entirely sure i can face voting for them but they stand the only (albeit remote) chance of unseating the tory twunt. voting for anyone else will only help the tory.

meh.

i'm starting to think seriously about voting lib dem - suggestions are they actually stand a chance of winning. tory twunt john redwood stood down, and the replacement sounds fairly uninspiring.

options are

tory - don't be silly

refuck - fuck off

labour - meh

lib dem - actually local candidate, has been on local council a few times and was leader for a brief spell when LD's had control

green - fairly uninspiring, was a tory activist as recently as 2016 and had his photo with theresa may still up on tweeter a week or so back.

currently trying to choose between LD, draw a cat on the paper, write-in vote for proletarian democracy, or just not bother...

Nah not really no. It's about the general political direction of the EU over the past 20 years for me and the future direction it will likely take. In the end left wing parties even if they do well will struggle to reform and remake it... it's not impossible but I havent seen any evidence of this either with the European Comission. In any case, we are out now, and it was voted on so it's not just just my feelings about the EU, it's my feelings about anti-democratic sneakery, playing disingenuous tricks to try and get us to rejoin. With the knowledge that they'd not let us back in anyway....

Regarding a tactical vote for the Cleggites, tbh Lib Dem are pretty much guaranteed to win here, pretty safe seat for them, so I'm def not inclined to hold my nose and vote for them. But if I was in a "safe" Tory seat which the Lib Dems might just squeek - lots of places in the South East etc, I'd definitely be tempted. I mean getting a Tory MP out is a good and worthy end, whatever one thinks of our bullshit electoral system.

Also, can only be a good thing there being a bit of a challenge to Labour if they do get a massive majority.

Should be a Green option in poll they deserve to not be shoved aside into the "other" category sharing a space with some right cunts
Shit poll didn't vote

EU elections simply reflect the rightwards turn in national politics of constituent states, something which is reflected in UK politics as well.

A break up of the EU wouldn't change this, and would almost certainly make it much worse.
