Operation pillar of cloud. Israeli assault on Gaza

I know they're always militarily weaker, I meant more logistically and the level of popular support in the strip
Well of course, nothing is more likely to increase support for Hamas then Israel bombing the shit out of them.

The biggest weakness not only for Hamas but for the Palestinian resistance in general is not Gaza but Palestinian division and the collaborator police state run by Abbas in the West Bank. The PA is the biggest millstone around the necks of the Palestinians and we should never forget that Abbas secretly approved of cast lead.

I think the Hamas leadership falling out and leaving the safety of their Damascus operations base under the wing of Assad (30,000) or so killed more than Israel so far this year has had a big impact
Syria slams Hamas leader as rifts with former ally widen

Isn't this just to 'dissuade' Palestine from applying to be a non-member observer state at the UN?

That'll be part of it, but Fat Benny and Co. have shown themselves up for schmucks lately, with all their windbagging about Iran, and getting slapped down by the US, so it's also about posturing for the home crowd, and for their Christian and Jewish supporters in the US.

Why don't the surrounding muslim countries not allow the Gazans to set up home in some of the massive empty spaces in their nations? Is it perhaps because for all that they claim to "support" their "brothers", they would rather keep them cooped up so as to annoy Israel, rather than really help them out?

Giles..

Because the Palestinians want to be Palestinians, not stateless refugees in someone elses' country, you ignorant, pigshit-thick fuckwad.

Large parts of Gaza city are reported to be without electricity. Obviously I have no way to confirm this myself.

What's the "US European Command" when it's at home?

US forces throughout the world are divided into "commands", so EuroCom is "US forces in Europe", i.e. (as far as this exercise was concerned) Germany, Italy and a host of other states where the US has "advisors" and/or maintains facilities for supplying their military.

Would hardly be surpising, as it's a standard tactic to take out power, water, telecoms and transport infrastructure before sending in ground troops.

At this point they havent actually confirmed ground operations, contrary to much earlier message I mentioned, but they have threatened it.
