Operation pillar of cloud. Israeli assault on Gaza

Have Israel noticed that Egypt has really got their shit together recently? And that Syria's a fucking mess right now.

It's not 2008 any more chaps.

I've been wondering how this will play out, the world has moved on a lot in the last four years...

Hamas must be incredibly weak right now because of Syria and fairly impotent in terms of retaliation, and again the strikes (if that's what you can call bombing a city) as in 2008 come prior to an election in Israel.

That's why they are doing it. Israel has a very consistent policy when it comes to its neighbours. Basically it relies on maintaining an overwhelming military superiority over every Arab state (and non Arab in Iran's case) and unleashing massive force and violence to degrade the military of any state that comes anywhere near to closing that gap. This is what its doing in Gaza right now. It feels that Hamas is too politically stable and has built too many garden shed missiles so its moving to degrade its military and shatter its command and control and political organisation and at the same time it is attempting to terrorise the population of Gaza into submission. Israel is literally launching a campaign of terror against the civilian population of Gaza.

Hamas has always been weak. It's a tiny, badly armed resistance movement/government operating under siege in the most congested place on Earth, physically and politically isolated from half the Palestinian people, going up against one of the most sophisticated military machines on the planet. Militarily it hasn''t got a chance. It never has

I know they're always militarily weaker, I meant more logistically and the level of popular support in the strip

Egypt hasnt exactly 'got its shit together' either. Only today a deal was announced for lots of EU money.

Fancy uniting a country experiencing transition problems? Huh, yeah, what is it good for, absolutely...oh.

sadly i doubt if the amount of materiel in one of the palestinian rockets would do much damage to that nefandous institution.

Going by the data on the various rockets available from defence websites, the biggest payload is about 15 kilos of explosive, usually home-made stuff that's not particularly brisant - "low" explosives if you will.
