Sky News reporting an explosion at the Military Base in Doha, in Qatar.

It now appears to have been caused by construction workers (!) and is not thought to be war-related.

and the beat goes on

Saddam 'not a key war aim'

Thursday's attacks aimed to 'decapitate' the regime
The head of coalition forces in Iraq, General Tommy Franks, has admitted that he has no idea whether the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein is alive or dead.

He played down the importance of focusing on the Iraqi president.

hmmmm. what's it all about, then? oil?

US gives up on Turkey move

The Pentagon has abandoned the idea of sending the US army's 4th Infantry Division through Turkey as part of its plan to send US forces into northern Iraq.

-bbc

thus opening the way for turkish troops to enter iraq whilst giving the US wiggle room for plausible denial and claims to be unable to influence the situation.

Live pictures of Bagdad. Some incident going on in the Tigris River. Some talk of a downed pilot. On Sky.

Iraq says they will be putting captured US/UK forces on TV soon - US/UK deny this.

Repeat of last war perhaps, when in fact the Iraq did indeed show captured troops.

Seems as Iraq was right for the last three days about Umm Qasr, my bet is on them.

US general confirming 'friendly fire' incident involving RAF.
as there are no iraqi jets in the sky - this is, to say the least, a serious breakdown in communications.

They are searching the Tigres amid sightings of a parachute - BBC.

Let's hope the crew survived and are found swiftly.

despite categorical demials by US officials - there are growing reports of a US pilot ejecting over iraqi held territory.

Sky are dismissing this as propaganda - all those camera angles but no footage of a flyer or a parachute!

More huge explosions are being reported in Baghdad. More likely to be true than the the carefully staged parachute drop.

Bush to seek additional 80 bln usd for Iraq war - report

WASHINGTON (AFX) - President George W. Bush will seek an additional 80 bln usd for the war against Iraq, The Washington Post reported, citing administration officials.

It said Bush plans to tell congressional leaders on Monday that the funds will be needed for combat and the first months of reconstruction, foreign aid, homeland security and humanitarian relief.

Officials are reportedly still working on the presentation of the spending request to be shared with lawmakers.

Democrats have slammed the administration's refusal to provide them with estimates, even classified ones, of the possible costs of the war and its aftermath under various scenarios.

Senate Minority leader Tom Daschle on Friday complained: "The war could cost anywhere from 100, perhaps to 200 billion dollars, but there's not a dollar in the budget right now for us as we consider the cost of the war or anything else."

given the stridency of american propaganda that this is a humanitarian mission - shouldn't the list read

1. humantarian relief
2. reconstruction
3. foreign aid
4. homeland security
5. combat

??????

Al Jazeera now saying that there has been a pilot captured in Baghdad.

The allies are still strenously denying any loss of planes.

americans now claiming that iraqis are 'herding' women and children into military positions in umm qasar.

USWAR/KDP `pesh margas' clash with Iraqi troops in north Iraq

Sanandaj, March 23, IRNA -- An Iraqi local tv station reported on
Sunday that the pesh marga fighters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party
(KDP) had thwarted an offensive by Iraqi forces in northern Iraq,
killing three Iraqi soldiers.
The Kurdistan TV reported that the pesh margas and the Iraqi
forces had clashed in Tepe Garus, 15 kilometers from the northern
city of Arbil, Sunday afternoon.

Im fine TLP, just about to go out to my yoga class, halo glowing, etc.

Re the soldier/s in the Tigris, Sky are now suggesting that s/he they may be from the UK.

Apparently reliable eye witnesses are saying that they had small parachutes. This would indicate that they were from low flying aricraft, which would indicate UK, not US pilots.

ISRAEL STILL ON ALERT FOR POSSIBLE STRIKES FROM IRAQ

TEL AVIV, MARCH 23, 2003. (from RIA Novosti's Andrei Pravov) - Israel will remain in the state of high alert for possible missile strikes from Iraq until U.S. and Allied forces bring under their control Iraq's western regions, from where such strikes are most likely to come.

Many in the Jewish State are deeply alarmed by the video showing an Iraqi official present a splinter of a cruise missile fired at Baghdad. The man alleges that the missile bears an inscription indicative of its Israeli origins. This makes him conclude that "the Zionists" must be held accountable for bombardments of Baghdad just as well as the Americans and the British. Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri echoed the point during his latest visit to Damascus.

USWAR/Iraq says Israeli-made missiles fired at Baghdad

Moscow, March 23, IRNA -- Iraq's Ambassador to Moscow Abbas Khalaf
said here on Sunday that several missiles made by the Zionist regime
of Israel had hit Baghdad over the past days.
Khalaf told reporters that the Iraqi government had discovered the
missiles among those fired into the city.

......

Undated-AP -- There's been another death of a U-S soldier in the war against Iraq.

A soldier from the Third Infantry Division was killed in a vehicle accident in southern Iraq.

The soldier has not been identified and no other details are available.

the CTV - canada's leading facist tv network - during it's 'Target Iraq' weather reports on the weather over the skies of iraq (fucking sickening that - little sun and cloud graphics! just like everything is normal) reported that a large sandstorm may be brewing up over much of the combat area.

IRAQ WAR Iraqi FM says no city has fallen to coalition

CAIRO (AFX) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri said that no Iraqi city had fallen to US-led forces and alleged that Israel is taking part in the four-day-old war to topple President Saddam Hussein.

"No city has fallen into their hands. Umm Qasr, which is a small, isolated community, is still resisting," Sabri, the first Iraqi official to travel abroad since the start of the war, told reporters at Cairo's airport.

The British military said that coalition troops were encountering small pockets of resistance from elite Iraqi troops in Umm Qasr, Iraq's only deepwater port which is just across the Kuwaiti border.

Fighting is still reported to be taking place round Basra and in Nasiriyah on the Euphrates river.

Sabri, arriving in Egypt after a stop in Syria, also charged that Israel is involved in the war.

US General: Iraq Campaign Making Very "Rapid Progress"

KUWAIT CITY (AP)--U.S. combat operations in Iraq are making "very rapid progress," despite hitting resistance in certain areas, said a senior U.S. military leader.

"I think we're advancing more rapidly than anyone could have expected," said U.S. Maj Gen. Daniel P. Leaf, who coordinates the coalition's air campaign. " There is resistance. That's quite predictable; it's combat. But...we've made very, very rapid progress."

i apologise if i am posting too much. i feel like i am on crack. the amount of bullshit being bandied about here in N. America has me incensed.
