Bitcoin discussion and news

Just checked my s******** account for the first time in ages and just found that my small change has turned into a spendable amount

Where do people buy their bitcoins these days? I can't even remember the name of the place I bought them when I did, but they stopped bank orders and since then I haven't bought any. As far as I can tell mtgox seems to be the only place, but I don't feel comfortable with it

In the UK it's not easy to get market rate btc in small quantities.

Mtgox has shut down for 12 hours in a "stable door, horse bolted" move.

Fool. If everyone knew a currency crash was about to occur, it would have already happened.
eh?

You can see from the graphs going back xtime that this goes up and down faster than my pants on a friday night. It's no prediction to say that it's about to go down, as it is going to go down. I predict it'll go back up again soon, and then back down again.

According to the Natural News freaks, bitcoin is simultaneously:
  • A defence against the illuminati
  • created by the CIA
  • About to crash
  • going to become the new currency
  • will save us all
  • will enslave us all
  • etc

I'm still struggling to find a way of being ready to buy some, should I decide to - I've registered with mtgox and Bitcoinfridge but am still waiting for approval. Am I missing something or do I just have to wait until they get back to me?
I bought from bitbargain.
No need to wait.
They got a tutorial and if you hit 'buy coins' there's a chat room to ask people as well.

It is indeed a prediction to say that any currency will go up or down. It is certainly a prediction to say that there is a crash coming. If everyone knew there was a crash coming, they would have sold their bitcoins, hence the crash would have already occurred.

FYI, the correct argument against Mike Adams having predictive powers is not that his prediction wasn't bang on, it would be that it's easy to worship predictions when they occur and forget the ones that do not.

I see nothing to suggest that Natural News do not have a consistent position on bitcoin.

Interested to hear what you reckon regarding deflationary currency by the way, bitcoinland is full of people who think the gold standard was the dogs bollocks and hate fiat.

Whores will have their trinkets

Classic butchersapron. A clever sounding sneer that has no meaning.

I'm expect there's quite a bit of intelligence behind his condescending comments. However I prefer to remain ignorant than to engage and then be sneered at.

Or, an allusion to a line From Black Books designed to show that i think the thing is entirely frivolous.
I am guessing that you don't understand how it works. Typical leftists. So concerned about the end of the 19th century that they don't bother to engage with the 21st.

If there is going to be meaningful political change in the world, it will be driven by technology, not by debates about obscure political texts. It probably/almost certainly won't be bitcoin. But unless you understand it, it's unique properties and flaws, you will not be able to understand the potential of such projects.
