i'm reading charles clover's black wind, white snow at the moment, which is about dugin and gumilev and so on, and he says that putin's used elements of dugin's ideas but they aren't close (although some people in putin's circle are close). also The West Overestimates Aleksandr Dugin’s Influence in RussiaI thought he was closer than Bannon was to Trump,
happy to be corrected by someone with more knowledge, because learning is more important than being 'right' for me.
I believe that is the case. From his standpoint he's defending his country from the encroaching NATO. And I think he knows he's not going to be in office forever so he's securing his country's future now. So he feels very comfortable in his decision.
Only site that has attempted to challenge Putins claim that it was Lenin's generosity that lead to Ukraine being given away.Anyone know much about this lot? They seem to be an independent Russian/English language source and their feed reports stuff earlier than I see elsewhere: Invasion Following an announcement from Putin, Russia’s military begins attacks against targets inside Ukraine, and separatists launch an offensive in the Donbas — Meduza
Yes, read that bit they had from an academic rubbishing the fantasy.Only site that has attempted to challenge Putins claim that it was Lenin's generosity that lead to Ukraine being given away.
One Sparky beats a prairie fire.Meanwhile, the bigger news, according to 5Live, is that Mark Hughes has taken the Bradford City job.
Resisting the temptation to repost the tide of stuff on Twitter but this is chilling, boots on the ground in Kharkiv (tbc), motorists getting the fright of their lives, (so far).
H/T kebabking
thats overthinking it too - this is geopolitics and the idea the UK or the US wouldnt do exactly the same if it lost a client state is blindness to the recent past never mind 'history'Over thinking it if you ask me, he literally just views the west with contempt and as weak and he wants to establish Russia as powerful and to be feared.
He’s quashed any opposition at home so he doesn’t give a fuck about how he looks to his people as long as he looks strong and he doesn’t give a fuck about what happens when he’s gone
Thanks, will have to pick that book up.i'm reading charles clover's black wind, white snow at the moment, which is about dugin and gumilev and so on, and he says that putin's used elements of dugin's ideas but they aren't close (although some people in putin's circle are close). also The West Overestimates Aleksandr Dugin’s Influence in Russia
One really depressing thing this century is there is absolutely no comeuppance for cunts anywhere ever. Nobody strung up by their feet from balconies or defeated and humiliated. Even Trump’s removal felt hollow and temporary. Where’s the optimism? Dirty pocket-stuffing oligarchs running the world both east and west and fuck all anyone can do about it lest they be crushed.
yeh let the country without loads of fash throw the first stoneYeah Russia invading somewhere because there are too many fash is
you might also like Lost KingdomThanks, will have to pick that book up.
It’s the 1970’s all over again. Why doesn't he just move to Russia if he loves it so much.
george w bush getting rid of saddam hussein isn't much of a win as the bigger cunt still livesI dunno. Hussein and Bin Laden felt like wins for getting rid of cunts. Trump sauntering off to Mar-a-Lago less so admittedly.
To try to compensate for my feelings of helplessness , does anyone know of Ukraine aid organisations that will be needing funds to mitigate the inevitable humanitarian crisis a prolonged Russian invasion will result in?
Yeah Russia invading somewhere because there are too many fash is
Yeah, I'd had a brief look around a few idiots and arseholes this morning in the hopes of any humility, instead the line seems to be "what the Western media isn't telling you about why people in Donetsk are crying out for liberation and independence..."There were quite a lot of twitter leftists, including Jacobin magazine, boldly declaring that the idea Russia was about to invade was trumped-up Western hype. Including alleged analysis of how many troops he had there vs how many he'd need to invade Ukraine. I wonder if they will have a moment of humility.
Yeah, was talking to one of my Polish housemates this morning, he was very uncomfortably conscious of where the NATO/Russia frontlines are going to end up if Ukraine gets fully conquered.Fucking hell I've been in those metro stations etc
Kyiv is a beautiful city
My Polish housemate also reckoned that, he thinks Putin's aware he won't be around for ever and wants this to be the thing he goes down in the history books for.Maybe putin (69) is not thinking about the short-ish term future at all, maybe he's going all in knowing his time is more or less up anyway & he's not the kind to appoint a successor.
I was just thinking about that as well. Like, the RT crowd have definitely been overstating the strength of Azov et al but there's no doubting the Ukranian far-right are stronger than I'd like. But do you reckon that, after this, nationalist politics pledging to make the country great again, avenge the humiliation at the hands of foreigners, etc, will have more or less appeal to ordinary Ukranians? It's a real headscratcher that one.Invoking nazism is a dirty evocative reason for this. Utter cunts
It's amazing how much the loon/crank left can contaminate whole areas of discussion, I'd already reached the point where I'm halfway to ing anyone as soon as they start talking about the CIA and now I'm the same with the Azov battalion.
