Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

Apparently Farage on his GB News show has been blaming the US & NATO, and speaking in support of Putin.

#KGB News.

There seems to be very few reports of Ukrainian resistance so far, apart from the claim of downing five planes. kebabking - is this normal at this point in the game, or a sign of how it's going to play out in general?

Bit of both I reckon - Russia has phenomenal combat power, it's put something like 75% of its total armoured/mechanised warfare capability and 50% of its tactical air power in Ukraine's borders. The only place it's going to get caught up in a bloodbath is in urban warfare, the rest is going to be akin to Blitzkrieg.

As for casualties, losses etc.. everyone is shooting at everything, every puff of smoke is a destroyed tank, every plane crossing the horizon has been shot down.

Is this a new thing, the public face of the US far right being so open pro Putin or have they had to pivot a bit in Trump's wake?
not really a new thing, the parts of the US right have liked Putin's strong man thing, and his aggressive promotion of Russian Orthordox Christianity, and cracking down on LGBT people, and going in hard against muslims in Chechnea (sp), for years now. The alt-right also love Alexander Dugin who is close to Putin.

I don't know how anyone could gauge that, but according to this guy Putin's seeming indifference to that question is significant.

This is the point the Estonian PM made in her interview with the FT last week - that western leaders make the mistake of viewing Putin through the prism of a democratic country. "You say that it's going to be super-expensive for Russia to have a war... [Putin] doesn't care. He's not up for elections."

the russians have a considerable amount of experience in urban warfare, in grozny for example.

Some wanker on the radio has just said that this tragedy has happened because the Ukrainians 'wanted to live European life.' What exactly the fuck is a European life you can be forgiven for asking yourself.

Maybe putin (69) is not thinking about the short-ish term future at all, maybe he's going all in knowing his time is more or less up anyway & he's not the kind to appoint a successor.
I believe that is the case. From his standpoint he's defending his country from the encroaching NATO. And I think he knows he's not going to be in office forever so he's securing his country's future now. So he feels very comfortable in his decision.

Interesting interview, for those without the 'bypass paywalls' extension, here's a busted paywall link - archive.ph

Latest Chinese statement as well as vacillating about "complex factors" does specifically reiterate "consistent support for national sovereignty and territorial integrity" but tenor of news reports gives undue credence to Russian claims. Tacit complicty rather than open support.
North Korea seem to have a similar line

Over thinking it if you ask me, he literally just views the west with contempt and as weak and he wants to establish Russia as powerful and to be feared.

He’s quashed any opposition at home so he doesn’t give a fuck about how he looks to his people as long as he looks strong and he doesn’t give a fuck about what happens when he’s gone
