Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

well plenty of the right were calling leftist the real warmongers whilst defending or premoting Putins move so all in roundabout

wonder who will be the first voice of appeasement that it fine as russian needs the growing room of the rienlan.. ukraine

One thing the Ukrainians have going for them is that Russia has a tradition of being stupid beyond belief on the battlefield. I hope Ukraine got the javelins dispersed and ready to go. Sounds like they might have already been put into action at Kharkiv.

There were quite a lot of twitter leftists, including Jacobin magazine, boldly declaring that the idea Russia was about to invade was trumped-up Western hype. Including alleged analysis of how many troops he had there vs how many he'd need to invade Ukraine. I wonder if they will have a moment of humility.
I definitely thought it was western hype tbh. Got no time for jacobin red brown slime but relatively few people were actually expecting him to do it!

Good report here - The Guardian’s defence and security editor Dan Sabbagh has been assessing Russia and Ukraine’s military forces and what western analysts believe Vladimir Putin wants from his all-out invasion.

Western defence sources have said they expect Russia to invade on “multiple axes” of attack - but the key focus is expected to be the capital Kyiv, which has a population of around 3m. They believe Russian president Vladimir Putin wants to engage in “regime change” in Kyiv, encircling the city with its military and hoping to oust its President Volodymyr Zelenskiy without engaging in urban warfare.

Britain has warned that Russia’s FSB spy agency has been tasked with delivering Kyiv and Ukraine’s other major cities, while the US has gone further and claimed that Russian officials have drawn up lists of Ukrainian figures to round up in areas where its military has attained control.

I think we all know the answer to that one…

Let’s see but if this is true, people are saying yeah yeah putin is a big baddie but we still want to sell Gucci handbags to all his friends wives.

Well of course. Obviously reading a lot of the posts here, one could be forgiven for believing that it's only the UK and US who afrre timorously regarding their own self interests but the fact is that everyone will be at it. Putin will have dialled all this into his plan. The trick now is for the rest of the world to react in a way that he hasn't planned for or make it obvious that he's miscalculated.

Almost exactly 8 years too premature in my prediction...

A reasonable, I think, rough summary of current Ru activity. Map included.

This is no minor incursion. It's a proper, full scale invasion. What the hoped for end state is isn't necessarily the same thing, I think old Vlad has a number of options, with a full occupation at one end, and retreat to, and consolidation of, the 'breakaway regions' at the other. That will depend on a magic mix of domestic politics, sanctions, economy, Finland/Sweden - NATO, and the military situation in Ukraine.

the idea that Hilary would of started a war with russian was a major point of trump campaign before election

and the whole witholding funds and trying to distabalise NATO during trump time in office.

kinda of joke anyone on the right can argue that trump was not Putin most successful misinformation campaign
