Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

Sky reporting 13,500 Ukrainians have applied for UK visas, and just 50 granted so far, FFS.
This is fucking pathetic even for the useless tossers that run this country. The vast majority of Ukrainians are going to stay in Poland and Romania not least because they are probably hoping to go home as soon as possible and a high proportion of them are women and children whose husbands have stayed behind to fight even if it's just digging ditches.
It would cost the Party Minister nothing to just say no visa's required just rock up with a Ukrainian passport and we will let you in.

Looking at gas prices this morning, the EU and NATO are going to have to jump one way or the other pretty quickly. Continuing down this road of paying a fortune to the Russians is not going to work.

There're various reports of negotiations going on with other oil producing countries to up their output to cover that currently being supplied by Russia to the west, so fingers crossed on that.

Going to be difficult that; they are making a fortune too. I think the only way it would work is doing some pan-Europe measure to reduce consumption massively, which would deal with both problems.

The Humanitarian Corridors are meant to open again. But given the competency the Russians have shown so far I doubt the poor sods on the front line have even been informed there's a ceasefire.
Never claim being evil when incompetence can explain

i'm by no means persuaded that the communication problem you describe actually exists.

As I mentioned upthread it's also not remotely viable. The border is 200km by road from Kyiv... I think there was some idea of an airlift from Hostomel, but we're talking about areas that have seen the most heavy fighting. And how many people is an airlift going to evacuate? enough for some presentation pics for propaganda purposes at a guess.

Anyone trying to get to the Belarus border on foot would be being sent on a death march.

The routes out of Mariupol, Kharkiv etc, no idea - we haven't had as much reporting on the surrounding areas of those places. Except that obviously any movement toward Russian lines is obviously going to be through heavily shelled areas with mines, unexploded munitions etc.

Routes west out if Mariupol have been mined and Russia says it's not them. Can't say I trust the fash defending that area much more than the Russians. Perhaps a rizla paper more.

Could you please clarify what you mean by this?
This area is where the fash element are concerntrated and the mayor is fash. I may be misremembering so need to fact check. If so up against it I don't trust them not to use human shields in the scrap there.
