The Azov battalion seem like a very nasty bunch, or some of them at least. But if you were fighting the Russians right now in southern Ukraine would you seriously say to this bunch of trained, armed fighters "please go home"? Of course you wouldn't. Not when your country is being destroyed and your people killed. Ukraine is being viciously attacked and it should come as no great surprise that ALL sections of society are joining in its defence.

The role of the Azov battalion and other far right groups in Ukraine is worth discussing and should maybe have its own thread. It would help though to have some accuracy and support for any claims made, particularly as it's central to Russia's propaganda strategy. Repeating and spreading misinformation on this is effectively giving support to fascism rather than opposing it.

If it's genuine, then it's purely for Russian consumption. "We're willing to settle for everything we set out to achieve, plus we'll make your president look like a sellout" is not a serious offer at this stage.

When they could conceivably take the rest of the country anyway it is, whilst the world is fractured and divided, and at the mercy of freezing or starving.
We (and the Ukrainians) need time to decouple from Russia and set up a proper international group to prevent any future grab. They already control Crimea and some of Donetsk / Luhansk anyway and even the most optimistic appraisals don’t say they will be retaking them militarily. If the Russians aren’t doing it as a serious measure then that should be exposed to the world as such.

I suspect there are probably people around Putin who are now thinking about how Russia can get out of this mess without a long messy war followed by a long messy insurgency. Putin is probably not the sort of boss that his subordinates can easily approach and say "Hey Vlad Let's Call It a Day eh?".
Even if not the complete subjugation of Ukraine he is going to need an out that leaves him in the power and with more than he started with and sod the 10,000's who must have died by now.
If there is going to be a quick resolution to this it really needs his generals to man up and shoot the fucker.

Well I suppose the total puppet government stuff is the part of the plan that seems least workable (due to needing to be combined with a heavy occupation), so the idea of Zelensky being left in place has been floating around since at least last week. But until/unless the sides seem closer to striking a deal, there probably isnt much point in placing that much weight in that possibility either.
