Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

which says more about the media than it does about me or this putin caresser here. and anyway: it posts on here. i mainly just lurk and doomscroll. i only raised my head cos someone invoked a specific neoliberal idiot who happens to really, really rile me up more than most things do

interesting that the putin caresser should have such a strong affinity for the neoliberal dipshit. birds of a feather etc...
Don't think I'd characterise Gray as a neoliberal. He's a Malthusian who thinks neoliberalism, and modernity in general, is a means by which humans will destroy ourselves. He's a nihilist essentially, probably why RD2003/LLETSA feels an affinity.

257 posts says otherwise.
I do answer the insults quite frequently, I admit. But it's a bit like when you're in the process of waking up, thinkng you're talking to faintly glimpsed figures in a vaguely unpleasant dream.

Gray, in that very article, almost gloats at the end of the neoliberal order (which, as others have pointed out, is due to his more or less having predicted it a couple of decades ago.)
o r l y ?

i'm deeply suspicious of anyone who claims to have managed to read the whole thing and not fallen asleep from pure boredom.

and i refer you to my original comment.

So if I'm getting RD2003 correct, they think that:
  • Ukraine is full of people who want to become part of Russia
  • Ukrainians who aren't in favour of this are "on the gravy train"
  • Ukraine has been bombed into the ground, wiping out most of the country's assets, and this somehow benefits the gravy train people, damn their tricksy hides, hence them not laying down their guns
  • The worst offender on this note is the president, who was so clever in his gravy-training he stayed in the middle of a war zone dodging kill teams on the off chance that the (pro-Russian) majority would join up en masse to fight a vastly superior force, rather than take the obvious course of running away and living off the income of being a pro-West president in exile. This bold example of gravy training will make him a mint (though I'm a little unclear on exactly how it'd do so more efficiently than legging it with as much cash as he can carry like most ousted presidents do)
Is that about where we're at in this ongoing masterclass?

quite likely you're correct tbh. i stopped actually paying attention to the bloke back in the 90's. i feel like he was a blairite back then? but i was only a teenager at the time so who knows maybe i misunderstood then or have misremembered since. but whatever, i just take an absolutely visceral delight in fucking hating him, and always have.

He changes his mind about every six months, so maybe. Only substantial thing I've read by him is Straw Dogs. He's a good writer, stylistically, which is what grabs people's attention, I think, but most of his predictions in that book haven't really come true, not in the way he put them. As someone said earlier, he cherry-picks facts to suit his arguments, and his arguments always contain overgeneralisations. He's a bit like the filmmaker Adam Curtis in that regard. Curtis is more entertaining, though.

Maybe you ought to post up a list of your books.

Ah okay, because your whole bit about
He was nicely placed, after all, before Russia intervened. Proper riches beckoned.

We're not naive, are we?
and ...
Ukraine has had hundreds of millions pumped into it (not to mention arms, which the Russians know are aimed at them) from a western direction to foment an anti-Russian attitude. An attempt to make it a western bulwark against Russia. Enough Ukrainians imagine they're soon going to be on the EU gravy train. Money works.

really makes it look like your line involves making vague, unevidenced assertions that a massive number of Ukrainians, and Zelensky in particular, have been having this big old war with Russia rather than running away with their assets intact because having the crap shelled out of the country would add a good bit of capital to their various bank balances. Glad you cleared that up.

I've got a 'line'? Like I'm actually some one-man band party?

I thought anarchists eschewed party lines?

The tragedy is that you keep suggesting this while being the single greatest impediment to actually discussing it.
Why? I post stuff that the (as merely I see it; no need to get upset folks) converging left/ anarchist/ ruling class/ arms industry fan milieu seem not to like. Fair enough, they don't like it. No reason why they have to. But then they seem to have to spend several pages attacking the poster. I don't know why.

It isn't a tragedy btw-it's just us lot dicking around as usual.

I helped a local food charity prepare and pack some pallets today to go to Poland for couple of hours with a neighbor a few worried Polish there sorting dried foods and medical washing stuff etc huge boxes all donated by some big companies was quite emotional at times Threads was a talking point :(

Threads I watched at a local CND meeting made me join up and go to a fair few protests and Billy Bragg , Style council CND gigs

Plague dogs not watched that for many years the ending really messed my head up as a child though but added to my watch for this week actually was searching for a link to Threads in full streaming on here for free someone posted earlier but couldn't find it its a bit difficult searching for "threads" on here and gave up looking through past pages to find it so if you have a link

Have I offered any evidence of upset? I'm merely describing reality - your posts have repeatedly derailed the thread, which is something of a tragedy given your insistence that you want to keep it on topic. Anyhow I'll let you get on with doing that I guess, it's late etc.
