I'm assuming that not everyone taking part in this conflict is a conscript who's compelled to fight, or some oligarch/high-ranking brass/whatever position to be able to use wealth, privilege or power to insulate themselves from the invasion.

Okay, because the first thing that came to my mind was the president of Ukraine and how if he wanted to he could be in a much safer place. It could be argued that he's not an ordinary citizen but there he is. I think in times like these when something much bigger than bank accounts or status is at stake you'll see people from every end of the social spectrum coming together and doing the same thing together. In fact in this case, Kyiv and the people there are remarkable and are going to go down in history.

In the meantime, they have invaders on their soil, who are going running around shooting people and blowing shit up. They're not going to stop unless called off or driven out. The Russians are not showing any indication they're going to pull out any time soon, I believe that this is the second day on which an evacuation has been called off because Russian forces are not respecting the required ceasefire.

I can agree that NATO fucked up in the past, but right now the ball is in Putin's court.
