Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

the Russian army?

So Elpenor, you are now saying:

The Russian army is perhaps giving North Korean soldiers internationally enabled mobile phones.

As you are such a stickler for sources, go right ahead and post your source for that steaming pile of bollocks you're spouting.

The point is they know how to use them, and you claimed they didn’t

No I fucking didn't, you bullshitter.

I thought you’d welcome a post made up of idle speculation as that was exactly what this post was:
Think about this; the North Koreans haven't fought any battles since 1953. The soldiers and officers have mostly never used a computer, if they have it's very basic and uses the basic intra-web. They have never seen or even heard of the www, don't use mobile phones, and are wholly unaware of drones and drone warfare. I'm sure they'll do just fine...poor sods.

also they are clearly aware of drones as there have been drone skirmishes with the south.
No I fucking didn't, you bullshitter.
You said they don’t use mobile phones and I showed they do. So who’s the bullshitter now?

Ok, so you’re contending that despite mobile phones being commonplace in North Korea for several decades that they still don’t know how to use them.

You must have a very low opinion of their intelligence.

Where the fuck have I said they don't know how to use mobile phones?

Stop making shit up, man.

tbf, I've enjoyed your posts over the years, but on this you've been going down the TC route, and like him, are now being a clown that's not worth the fucking effort. Shame, but will treat you as I do him. ta-ta.

As usual you are posting complete crap.
There are plenty of people/groups that would favour Russia over Ukraine that are not tankies. Assad and the Iranian regime may be vile but neither is Stalinist.

The horrible, crap 'anti-imperialism' that has led some to support, or downplay/equivocate the actions and harm done by, forces/groups that are opposed to NATO/US is shite but it does not have to be, and frequently isn't, tankie.
Of course there are other groups favouring Russia, I never said it was exclusively Tankies at all.

It's not anti-imperialism either, they are absolutely fine with Russian imperialism past and present and that makes them Tankies.

The point was they can and do use mobile phones :)

FYI: less than a quarter of the North Korean population owns a mobile phone.

now to be honest you said decades of wide spread mobile ownership..

article does not hint at that mind :hmm:

Er yes you did that is exactly what you did write
If you want Russia to win or keep it's gains from the war because it's up against the west then you're a tankie.
Which by your reckoning makes Islamists tankies, it makes some nationalists tankies.

Which is why I put 'anti-imperialism' in quote marks, and no a lot of them are not tankies - which does not mean that their politics are not crap nor dangerous.
This is as stupid as your nonsense that Corbyn won because of 'Trots'.

I can't even think of a metaphor for the turn this thread has taken - who gives a fuck if 1%, 25%, or 100% of North Koreans have some kind of People's Brick mobile phone? If there are any North Koreans wth the skills to pilot drones or whatever, would Kim Jong Un risk depleting their ranks?

North Korea is undeniably a dictatorship so extreme that it seems like a broad-stroke parody of dictatorships, its people are starving to death, and anybody who claims that Western media is deliberately misrepresenting what is really a workers' paradise is a conspiracy theorist at a level that even Alex Jones might think twice about.

The percentages to think about here is that 0% of North Korean soldiers are volunteers and Putin is 100% desperate to be deploying them in the first place

The most important point about North Korean troops isn't their ability or otherwise to use mobile phones, it's that deployment of foreign troops to the conflict is a dangerous escalation.

It gives South Korea a horse in the game and will likely intensity tension on the Korean peninsula.

It also sets a precedent that could lead to the deployment of foreign troops on Ukraine's side, most likely Polish or Baltic troops.

Can I refer you to point 4 in the boards terms and rules?

That's a ridiculous jump to make, i was answering a post about tankies.

I would question if the original tankies were politically consistent or just shite anti-imperialists all along.

Corbyn didn't win anything - because of trots.

Corbyn didn't win anything more because of the parliamentary Labour Party than the trots, and largely because of one keir starmer's shitty Europe policy at the get brexit done election - and even so he received more votes in 2019 than starmer accrued in july

well that settled it, whilst North Korea is a one-party state led by a dynastic totalitarian dictatorship that regularly engages in grave human rights abuses. Surveillance is pervasive, arbitrary arrests and detention are common, and punishments for political offenses are severe.

you can still have a mobile phone so happy days ..

For that to happen, wouldn't it requires significant numbers of NATO warplanes to ensure that the Russian Air force was no longer a threat. Which involve flying missions into Russia itself?

Because I can't see many countries willing to put their soldiers in the conditions the Ukrainians are fighting in.
