Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

It wouldn't even be pedantry, it would just demonstrate your inability to understand figurative language.

No it wouldn't. It would just demonstrate my contempt for people who use it.

Additionally, there are plenty of people, certainly on these boards, who are pretty thick, and really do think it's murder, as a cursory inspection of the Brixton gangster thread will attest.

Contempt for people who use figurative language? So pretty much the whole human race?

I think it says something about you that despite you being a member of the intelligencia that you have the compassion to not just reach out but positively seek out and engage those that are pretty thick.
Can I just reassure A380 that I don’t include him in that category .

Sorry I've not really been following this thread (or indeed many of the important ones) recently as I've been a tad busy with life.

However I would like to state unequivocally for the record that I am indeed pretty thick...

Cheers, I'm glad it doesn't go unnoticed.

However, you shouldn't exclude A380. He's been a special project of mine for years and is only now starting to show signs of improvement after hundreds of beers and scores of curries.

What a headline
The content is even grimmer

Myroslav, a marine officer who served in Krynky on Kursk offensive "“Media effect, but no military result.” <sums up a lot

also this bit is interesting:
"And despite weeks of reports suggesting that as many as 10,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Kursk to join the Russian counter-offensive, the soldiers we’ve been in contact have yet to encounter them.

“I haven’t seen or heard anything about Koreans, alive or dead,” Vadym responded when we asked about the reports. The Ukrainian military has released recordings which it says are intercepts of North Korean radio communications.

Soldiers said they had been told to capture at least one North Korean prisoner, preferably with documents. They spoke of rewards - drones or extra leave - being offered to anyone who successfully captures a North Korean soldier.

“It’s very difficult to find a Korean in the dark Kursk forest,” Pavlo noted sarcastically. “Especially if he’s not here.”

It really comes down to if you think British troops should be there or not.

If you do, then for the most part you will feel there actions are justified, although there will be cases were some act outside of their orders, on the whole you will feel they are justified.

If you don't think they should be then you will see their actions as murder in the moral if not the legal sense. I don't like pinning the title of murderer on the average soldier following orders though. While we do make individual moral choices the real culpability lies higher up the chain and oftern more with politicians anyway.

There is no justification for British troops being anywhere overseas; and no justification for the British armed forces existing in their current structure with class hierarchy and sworn allegiance to the monarch rather than to the people.

  • Nato is highly unlikely to heed Ukraine’s call for a membership invitation at a meeting on Tuesday, diplomats have told the Reuters news agency. “It will take weeks and months to get consensus,” a senior Nato diplomat said on Monday, Reuters reported. “I don’t see that happening tomorrow, I would be very surprised.” The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, will be in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday for the probably last high-level Nato foreign ministers’ meeting before Donald Trump takes over from Joe Biden as president.

On the other hand it's safer for people here if British troops aren't stationed in britain. Maybe we could as it were kill two birds with one stone by transferring the British army en masse to West Falkland, thereby removing them from where they can do much harm while in keeping with the join the army and see a bit of the world spirit.

Any more sightings of these North Koreans or have they all absconded, were killed in shelling by Atcams or just passing their time watching Russian pornography?
