Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

Overnight / this morning some 100 missiles and 100 shaheds have been fired at Ukraine.
As yet, RBS / livemap haven't produced a list [map] of the targets, although President Zelenskyy has mentioned critical civilian infrastructure and that the casualties included fatalities.
A sustained barrage like that will have almost certainly overwhelmed the air defences.

I think Russia wanted to have a big firework display for Ukraine’s Independence Day, but Zelensky having Modi round for tea meant they had to leave it off for a day, the cynical cunts.

At a breakfast discussion at Davos in January 2023, the BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said that Ukraine’s postwar recovery could become “a beacon to the rest of the world about the power of capitalism”.

Are we meant to be surprised by something predictable that someone from Blackrock said at Davos 20 months ago.

An interesting snippet of an interview with an American mercenary who went into the Kursk region. The US PMC The Forward Observations Group, has been spotted in Kursk, its not only been fighting in Ukraine it has also been supporting the IDF in Gaza.

its the biggest load of bullshite on the internet, they're the biggest propagandists in British media over this war that ive come across
I think Galeotti has some interesting insights but beyond that I'm not over impressed.

The direct attacks on Russian territory do seem to have, so far, been fairly effective, although I assume that Belgorod might be more of a challenge that Kursk. Still I feel for the people that I've taught who live in the city.

im only going with the clickbait titles they regularly put out to be honest.... I cant actually speak for the content, the couple of times I watched was around the Wagner "coup" ...it was ludicrous to the point of parody...I still see the thumbnails though and I don't think they've changed tack much since then

I must say that one of the features of the war has been the whole social media gravy train and 'analysis' industry that spawned over night . 16 year old cafe waiters as OSINT specialists, a seemingly endless supply of academic and specialists on Russia and post Soviet space , gamers turned military analysts, endless videos and podcasts from people who have never written a book , a small empire of NGOs supporting the US's position, and the sort of wild speculation that passes for analysis that we haven't seen since Chicken Little.

The Americans no longer have the ability to do this inhouse

Russian rumours the Ukraine has attacked border posts in Belgorod Oblast where I assume the russians must be more prepared than they were in Kursk. There's an "expert" called Philip Ingram on Time's Radio getting excited about this. He comes across as a bit of a flag-shagger, Kursk was: "phase one of more to come" and "It's all very-well organised".

Ukraine Launches Attack on Belgorod Region, Pro-Kremlin Sources Say - The Moscow Times

Is he any relation to charles Ingram?

Nonsense. You've gone senile and forgotten the Gulf War. Even with people being considerably less permanently online then, it was a clown show. Though given how one sided it was, there was a lot more fapping going on. You want absolute madness, you should trawl the internet for what people think about China invading Taiwan.

I guess you had to be there?

The39thStep AFAIK they're not really a PMC as such, but a very small group (6 or so) of ex-US military who mostly make money from merchandise, odd Instagram influencers who take snaps in warzones for the airsoft and wannabe types. They have a website selling tshirts etc. (Not to say they don't go places and 'do stuff' but they're not of any political significance really.
