Operation pillar of cloud. Israeli assault on Gaza

They don't do propaganda, as you well know!

Any thoughts on Egypt & Iran getting involved? or hot air & threats?
Egypt won't do anything militarily. They'd lose all US aid. Israel would love Iran to get involved. Israel would then have an excuse to attack. Arab leaders visiting Gaza to show support is about all they can do I think. Hollande has made a slight sympathetic move by contacting Morsi instead of Net. A visit to Gaza by French diplomats would shake up Israel.

This is an f16 the other plane look diffrent to me

the indicator on the photo in the original claim was that the trailing edge of the wings was swept back, not as much as the leading edge, but still obvious and definate - in the photo DR has posted (conveniently in plan form, the same view as the original photo in the claim), the trailing edge of the F-16's wing can be seen to be completely straight and sticking out at 90 degrees to the fuselage. theres no way the two aircraft could be confused from underneath/on top in such clear photos.

they may - though i seriously doubt it at this stage - have shot down an IDF F-16, but the photo they posted wasn't evidence of it happening.

Something I don't like about the 'Harry fear' feed....can't put my finger on it...:hmm:
I'm holding off judgement,it's all a little strange but remember rumours must be rife all over Gaza.I think he's being quite professional, but he is a snotty nosed teenager with an eye on fame, anything is possible.

Please note that I consider my dislike of 'Nathan Barley meets Gaza' to be a very distant second to the horrific events taking place, and I shouldnt go too far in condemning someone who is trying to report fro the underreported side of the conflict. However since he clearly has a vibrant ego and when I've watched his feed he has reported a lot of untrue stuff, I took a moment to get wound up by him, and do not consider him an especially useful source. Perhaps that might change at some point but I wont hold my breath.

Meanwhile I see that there are reports some missiles were fired from the Sinai peninsula earlier. Not actually that surprising really, and Egypt has had security problems in that region for many months now.

Is there a real possibility this attack will provoke a wider regional war in the Middle East?
not really no

who would you suggest it would be between? the syrians and the israelis? the egyptians and the israelis? the israelis and the jordanians? the israelis and the lebanese? some sort of to and fro with the iranians? pls suggest some adversaries for the israelis, preferably credible ones.

To be fair to him if I were in Gaza City right now listening to explosions going off I'd probably be crying in the corner praying for my life, not trying to keep a running commentary of events to people on the internet.

Indeed, and I'm sure I would be even worse. I dont see the point if he is going to report rumours as if they were facts though, watching someone cowering in fear might even be more useful.

I'm more interested in what people think without shaping it with my views on this one.

'Nathan Barley meets Gaza'! He's polished alright. keep it dusty. Go Norman, pillar of cloud is psychopathic language and they are the most cowardly army, always go after the easiest targets, bottle it with Hezbollah but hit Gaza, shooting fish in a barrel is right.

Has he posted a picture of the same child's toy more than once yet?

Toppling Hamas is not on the agenda as a goal for Operation Pillar of Defense, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman told Channel 10 Friday.

"We are definitely considering a ground operation, but toppling Hamas, I think that's something that the next government will have to decide," he said.

No I don't think so but I think it will piss of the neighbours and not just out of a sense of solidarity. If Morsi keeps his promise to keep Rafah open (and he claims it is now open 24/7) and if Israel launch a ground assault then Egypt is going to see a serious refugee influx into Sinai and possible attacks from there against Israel which will put Egypt and the peace treaty in a spot especially if Israel demand Morsi moves to crack down on resistance forces operating from Egyptian soil. If Morsi does he will lose credibility at home. If he doesn't then Israel may strike against the resistance forces operating from Egypt and then we do have an international incident.

Cheers for the view/thoughts. Glad someone was able to engage their brain on this simple request.

On Any questions one panel member suggested nay rejoiced that Israel had struck Gaza 200 times with something like less than 30 casualties and claimed this was remarkable and showed their accurate targetting and avoiding of civilian casualties. I suspect there will have been a lot more Gaza civilian casualties than have so far been reported.

What with the pix of the planes and and the following, my initial scepticism has congealed into 'nope it's all bollox' so apologies for posting the tweet that claimed this in the first place. The person who tweeted that later tweeted a link to a facebook page with a photo claiming to show id from the Israeli pilot. The picture had 'AFP' and 'Getty images' embossed through it, ha ha. She took down the link shortly thereafter as it's veracity had been called into question. The pic was actually from 2006.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel on Friday of launching an assault on the Gaza Strip to undermine his efforts to secure a diplomatic upgrade at the United Nations.
Israel began its air offensive on Wednesday with the declared aim of stemming surges of rocket strikes by Islamist militants that have disrupted life in southern Israeli towns.
Abbas, whose forces were chased out of Gaza by Hamas in 2007, accused Israel of instigating a "blood bath", telling reporters he thought the escalating military campaign was aimed at sinking his own diplomatic maneuverings.
