Did anyone catch the UK Briefing by Col. Chris Vernon?

Fucking hell it gave me hope for some small time there.

Just the plain facts of it, he is the on site commander at the Basra front who had been flown in from Kuwait.

He did not speculate and put down the press in a style and manner that seems quite lost in the hype of the previous briefings.

He has announced that any crews attempting to film POW's will have their cameras destroyed, thats as the field commander he refuses to fire into central Basra and that despite the human shields used by the Iraqi troops occupying they will not fight until they are certain of who is who.

It was just the reply to someone asking for a timescale.

"We are not like journalists, we do not work to deadlines. We are a professional army. If it takes X amount of time, great If it takes Y amount, fine, we can deal with that"

British miltary 'Intelligence' (contradiction i know) have stated there ia a popular uprising in Basra and Iraqi forces are firing on the crowds of civilians.

British army say they'll go in at first light.

Could be propaganda...........

Scouser - I just heard about the possible "popular uprising" in Basra on the BBC radio news.

The military (UK) commander in the area stated something to the effect that they were glad it had started happening, because otherwise they would have had to enter the city.

Strange that, considering it was reported yesterday that Basra had been taken.

I sniff bullshit somewhere :(

Interesting one this. C4 news said the same thing about this uprising in Basra. Half way through the programme Jon Snow announced breaking news that " British Forces are engaging in a full front attack on Basra to support the uprising"...

Two soldiers from Queens Royal Lancers killed in "friendly" fire last night!

Source: BBC World - Live.

PEEPS! I recognise the impulsion to post "commentary", but there is a whole forum directed to the War in Iraq.

Let's keep this thread free for "breaking news", eh?

(Big up to joe dick.)

Blessings all.

Keep yer heads down and I'll see you in the UK in April.

:)

2 serously injured, and, no, it wasn't USA freindly fire either!

The Washington Times
"Head of the Iran-based Iraqi Shiite Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution of Iraq, Ayatollah Mohammad-Baqer Hakim, Tuesday warned coalition forces to leave Iraq as soon as Saddam Hussein is toppled or face the military resistance of the Iraqi opposition."

and ??????? "Vice President Dick Cheney will soon head to Jordan to urge his daughter, who is in the capital, Amman, not to go to Baghdad with "human shields," newsmax . & middle east gateway I dont think so.. denied at UPI

globaltv in canada just aired a report that concluded that the arab press was heavily censored and not as reliable for war reportage as the ''free, western press''.

Keep an eye out for the following slogans around Iraq, in various tv reports, which are getting painted out;

“Down USA”
“Death To America”

Although only the “USA”, and “America” bits are getting painted out, which is indicative of the paint being a short commodity, or slogans being too many!
