Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

Annexations in name only. It'd be interesting to see how they plan to annexe Zaporizhzhia, for example, given that they barely control it right now...
The problem is that once signed into Russian law next week, they become Russian territory in the eyes of the Russian state.

The amended Russian constitution states that no Russian leader can cede territory once it is annexed. Sets the conditions for a longer lasting conflict and makes it harder for any leader (Putin or otherwise) to extricate Russia from the region. Which isn't to say that Ukraine should do anything other than try to regain all of their lost territory, obviously.

Good graphic here showing the borders of the occupied territories, although it's still unclear whether Russia is annexing them in their entirities, or just the occupied parts.

Well yeah, Putin holds the Russian constitution in such high regard…

There'll be a Downfall parody along in a minute.

He's off his fucking tree, or he's desperately/cynically throwing shit in every direction like a wanking monkey in a zoo - doesn't really matter which, he's drawn lines that the west can punch through, but he can't withdraw from.

Expect him to lash out. Don't expect it to actually matter to him whether the lashing out succeeds (lumps of Moldova, attempt on Kyiv, bits of Finland, baby nuke on Ukrainian logs depot) what matters is the lashing out.

"The German Reich will not tolerate persecution of Germans in this region because they belong to our country or because they hold certain opinions. There must be peace and order. I have therefore decided to help the millions of Germans in Austria with the resources of the Reich ... Our soldiers guarantee that the Austrian Volk will shortly be given the opportunity to determine their future themselves and thereby their fate with a plebiscite. Behind the legions stand the will and decisiveness of the entire German nation ...But the world must convince itself that the German people in Austria have been seized by a soulful joy, and see that their rescuing brothers have come to their aid in their hour of great need. "

Whatever happened to that chap?

This is properly worrying me. He's given himself no room to back down, and the Ukrainians aren't going to just say "sure, go ahead". Plus all the existential threat from the West stuff, like where does it go next?

This, to me, is shaping up for some kind of escalation. And then fuck knows what happens. He's cornered and that scares the shit out of me.

You don't know? Got quite famous, ended up in all the history books after he killed Hitler
Hitler? Was that the 18 year old who got eaten by a sabre tooth tiger that appeared in Munich city centre n 1912?

Is this the same series where in the previous episode the chancellor of the Austrofascist Fatherland Front is assassinated by Austrian Nazis and then the next Chancellor, who aligned Austria with Mussolini's Fascist Italy and thought Austrians were Germans anyway called for a referendum himself, and then the Nazis invaded the fascists anyway?
