Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

how swiftly afghanistan and the rather greater nato presence there is forgotten. not to mention kosovo. of course the situation in ukraine is comparable - whether or not only a tiny minority of people who opposed iraq believe it.
Remind me how many air strikes Nato has launched against Ukraine?

Sorry but you have totally lost it on this.

I can respect a total no war position stating we should not be sending weapons at all.

I disagree, with it but I understand and respect it.

But stuff like this is just blatantly not true and makes you look daft, which you aren't.

As the polls open for three days of voting, in a devastating blow to those UK constituencies that like to compete to be the first to return a result on election night, it seems the results are in already...

  • Putin will get 82% of the votes;
  • Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) - 6%;
  • Davankov (New People party) - 6%;
  • Slutsky (LDPR) - 5%.
71% of Russians who are eligible to vote, will cast their votes. Only 1% of voters will spoil the ballots.

Well done everyone.
Sunderland civic pride has taken a big hit, having lost their election speed record

It’s commonplace for authoritarian regimes to use elections as a way of legitimising themselves. There are all kinds of ways to ensure that an election returns the result the regime needs, ranging from outright vote rigging to elimination of the opposition to preventing non-governmental communications to, well, you name it really. The mere existence of an election therefore tells you nothing, really, about the democratic status of the place that the election is happening.

It's his site, he can do what he likes with it.

There's a MOD team, and editor is, in truth pretty good about separating his personal interactions from modding decisions (in comparison to what I'd be like, for example...).

There's always beef, and not everyone gets it right all the time, and there's a feedback forum if you aren't happy with decisions that you see.
Once again please accept my grovelling apologies, I genuinely had no idea that 'editor' actually owned this site. Owner, moderator and poster, that's some conflict of interest.

You seem very interested in military matters, NATO in particular, how come?

Have you heard the term "Walt"? kebabking is what walts want to be when they grow up. The sort of bloke who wears rectangular sunglasses.

It's no wonder you consider daft what you can't understand.

Perhaps you also "had no idea" there was a feedback forum.
And there's always Citizens Advice.
Though the Good Law Project might be interested in this serious breach of contract.

he gets paid by them.

In the occupied territories, Russia has made it very difficult for Ukrainians to get by without Russian passports - but those who receive one risk getting drafted

A Russian passport is needed to prove property ownership and keep access to health care and retirement income. Refusal can result in losing custody of children, jail – or worse. A new Russian law stipulates that anyone in the occupied territories who does not have a Russian passport by July 1 is subject to imprisonment as a “foreign citizen."
Under international law dating to 1907, it is forbidden to force people “to swear allegiance to the hostile Power.” But when Ukrainians apply for a Russian passport, they must submit biometric data and cell phone information and swear an oath of loyalty.
