Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

And what exactly are they going to do with that when Ukraine are in range to shell it?
What if (what remains of) Ukraine has been forced to accept a new border?, if it gets to that point the Ukraine might rightly think they are fucked if they retaliate.
NATO or countries within NATO need to get in there now and stop it getting to that point imo (should have done it 6 weeks ago iyam)

Whats Moldova's position?

Probably shitting themselves, since Russia announced their intentions are...

“Control over the south of Ukraine is another way to Transnistria, where there is also evidence that the Russian-speaking population is being oppressed,” Tass quoted Minnekayev as saying at a meeting in Russia’s central Sverdlovsk region. LINK

Which was one of the same excuses for invading Ukraine, Moldova is pushing forward with their formal application for EU membership, first signed back in March.

Trying to seem as pro Ukraine as possible without joining the sanctions. There's Russian troops in Transnistria so they can't do much more than that

Moldova is not in NATO, no troops from NATO members are going in there, get a grip.

ETA, if you want to carry on this discussion, can I suggest you take it to the correct thread, rather than derailing this one?

Its not your decision is it?, Im just saying they should IMO which counts for fuck all more than yours
As for getting a grip I would direct the same words to all those who think carrying on as we are is going to stop Putin escalating
China is flying plane loads of Missiles to Serbia now, this could quite easily blow up while NATO Twiddles its Generals

So what are you saying? Get the minutemen out and nuke those Russian silos before they get a chance to nuke us?

Russia has been actively working on Moldova for a long time- there a thread on it somewhere on here concerning the Moldovan push to the west rather than the east and the Russians trying to manipulate it. The emptying of the Moldovan banks a decade ago is reckoned to have been led by Russia.Transnistria is a bit of a red herring in this I think. Unless the situation has changed massively of late, there are a grand or so of Russian troops but they have fuck all to do and are not exactly well armed. They just spend their time drinking and decamped in shitty old barracks around the border zone.and extracting bribes from wankers like me when I try to enter

It's hardly a red herring, when Russia has declared their intention of creating a land bridge to Transnistria on the pretence of protecting the 'Russian-speaking population [that] is being oppressed', that's a real threat to Moldova.

That's bullshit. There was a very short war in about 1991-2 where about 1500 people died. Transnistria has had de facto independence since then. They've had some relatively fair elections since then and are probably less oppressed than Russians in Russia itself.

I know it's bullshit, but that is what Russia is saying.

Do you think Russia will try and do this, though? Will they encounter enough resistance to stop them if this is what they want to do? Or is talk about it just hyperbole? :(

The transnistria admin already rejected calling for a formal annexation by Russia some time ago

And, in view of Russia's stated intention, see post 13,173 above, you think that would change anything Russia wants to do, if they are not stopped from putting that land bridge in place?

Calling them 'Russian Troops' is a bit misleading btw when most of them are local Transnistrians. Transnistria also supplies a lot of Moldova's electricity. It's got a big Ukrainian minority too
