Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

If this story in today's FT is any guide. . .

Then we'd better not look to the oligarchs to effect regime change anytime soon. VP has 'em by the short and curlies. They all saw what happened to Khodorkovsky when he didn't play ball.

i dont see it - in the authors opinion its a protracted stand off that can only be concluded by talks, those talks will require concessions, obviously. theres not much more to say at this point

The author is speculating on what Ukraine might be willing to concede in return for a full (well, except conceded areas) Russian withdrawal. It's not like this will magically work if they present those options.

The crap Bond villain who only made one mistake - showing his war map on state TV.

Note how Ukraine is divided up, and note how there's an amphibious attack going up into Moldova...

If you want a good nights sleep, don’t look at maps of pre-ww1 Russia. Moldova would be next and even Romania should fear for its borders.

Not like they have much they can concede sadly. Any concessions are basically unequivocal surrender followed by another bloody civil war or total subjugation by Moscow

Its not just casual rasism bad as that is. In Ukraine they have a fascist battalion in the army. Senior political figures who were in violent nazi groups including the head of police. Then there's the national holiday where they celebrate kicking out the Soviets with the help of the actual Nazis.
There's loads of racism and fascism and conspiracism in the countries of the old Soviet Union. Stalin and his successors did little to suppress this, as the Soviet Union itself was based on racism, a different kind but racism nonetheless. The reason some Ukrainians welcomed the German army initially was because they had suffered years of appalling treatment at the hands of their own government, millions had died from starvation. There had been thousands of revolts against forced collectivisations.
Ukraine also has a jewish president, many of whose family members died in the holocaust. Funny he hasn't noticed so many Nazis running around.

Anyone know enough about Russia's signal capacity to know if this could be true or wishful thinking / Ukrainian propaganda? Given most western police and other civil agencies have gone digital* albeit with cellular networks, it seems unlikely, but not impossible.

*Except the Americans, but that's more a political decision than a technical lack.

Mind you, on those same maps India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Canada, NZ, Australia, RoSA and lots more were pink. So if Putin does get away with it let's fire up the dreadnoughts...

RT now off air in the UK.

Well it's gone from Freesat & Sky, but people are saying they are still on Freeview, because the feed was switched from the Astra satellites to a Intelsat one.

I think that is a mistake. esecially if Putin reciprocates with BBC

It has nothing to do with the UK, this is the EU banning the Luxembourg based SES Astra satellites from transmitting it, OFCOM is still thinking about it, bless them.

There are (were) two RT channels on Freeview, and one is gone, but the other is still there. I have personally checked and verified this, so you can be most assured that this is how the case is what it is in the present circumstances.
