Ministers target July 4th for reopening of England’s pubs and restaurants

Had a stroll around Clapton, Stamford Hill & Stoke Newington this afternoon, passed a few pubs , seemed busy at one by the river , but most people drink outside it anyway (small boozer) a couple in Stoke Newington haven't opened, the Spoons had and looked quiet , but it's a huge pub so there might have been more out of my sight-line, it had a one-way system , knowing that spoons , that may be a challenge later on for the staff . The Soveriegn in Clapton was busy (loads sat outside) . The only queue I saw was my local , The Crooked Billet, which had 20 or so waiting, staff were doing some sort of check.

I'm stuck in that kind of traffic every Friday night trying to get home to Anglesey, and basically nightly in summer months.

It's been the one great thing about covid - no fucking visitors.

They are allowed back on Monday and I am dreading it.

Sounds similar to our situation then. Really genuinely concerned about the next couple of weeks down here - I hope it works out alright for you.

I suppose if we do get through it without a spike in infection it really does mean we're over the worst of it.

Bit kill or cure though, isn't it, if you'll pardon the unfortunate turn of phrase?

Bio-security at my local cafe and micro-pub was excellent, not sure how the business model will work though, sealed off spaces, etc, just heard, Devonshire Cat(large now hipsterised, imo) in town has closed for good.

By contrast, I'm over in Rochdale at the moment and the nearest pub to me posted up something along the lines of 'no need to book a table, just turn up and we'll do our best over social distancing'. I can't find it now and I'm not sure they've actually opened ... so this isn't the world's best anecdote and I won't name them. Anyway, just a flavour of how things are in the 3rd place town in the nation's Spike League.

* for those who know, it's one of the two near Springfield Park.

i've just been past my local, it turns out the windows all concertina open, never seen them open before, the doors are also propped open and the landlady was standing outside with a surgical mask hanging off one ear smoking a fag looking angrier than usual. looked busy but bleak.

I'm quite tempted to go for a walk so I can see how busy everywhere is. Most pubs round here don't have beer gardens so people are more likely to be drinking in the street.

The 14 days of self-isolation for the Llangefni packers must be up by now, but I guess they don’t visit pubs on the island?

:(
We liked the Devonshire Cat -- great for good beer choice -- when we were last in Sheffield.
Admittedly, that was three years ago ... but it didn't seem that hipster-ish then .....

So that's bad news about the closure.
I'm really concerned about more pubs having to shut down -- Sheffield or anywhere

Our local is packed. 100+ people outside with no social distancing. We can normally hear their garden, which sounds as busy as normal but today when I opened the front door I could hear the customers out front. Wife and daughter went for a walk with the dog and couldn't walk down the pub road, which is closed off to cars at both ends as the crowd was too big and closely packed. Way worse than the Soho video above.
