FWIW Spymaster, I've sat in a room of Trefoil Guild (very senior section of the Guide Association) members and some of their behaviour was anything but "charitably restrained".
Don't get me wrong, nobody was drunk (the meetings are generally "dry"), nobody was fighting, and there was next to no actual swearing. "Extremely high spirited banter" might be an accurate description.

By contrast, my mates mum often had her branch (is that what they're called?) of the W.I. in her kitchen. She was a governess of the local school, the vicars wife was often there, and there was another woman who said "gosh" a lot. My dad had a very good friend who was a nun (who I once screamed "you fucking cunt" in front of , but that's another story), who also pitched-up occasionally.
We were always very careful to mind our p's and q's when they were around.
