Elon Musk - news and discussion

This stuff about him "just being weird" is for the birds. He's been confidently doing public speeches for decades, he's not an idiot and even if he were, how many idiots can you think of who have done chest-thumping seig heils at rallies in the last ten years, outside of actual Nazi ones?

TBF. and I’m not disagreeing with your broad point. But he is a terrible public speaker. I know, i’m just being a bit pedantic. As you were.

Really think Tesla are fucked. In the UK anyway. This shit won't be going down well at all with a big chunk of those who can afford them and are motivated to get and electric car. And the toxic masculinity Range Rover/ that weird Merc jeep thing crew who might at least tolerate this are a small market and don't seem to like Teslas anyway.

As far as I can see, most of the new car market is driven either by finance or double boomers who've paid off their own mortgage selling their dead parents house, and they seem to get fuck off massive SUVs or that new electric VW bus if they think the're a bit more classy but still want to take up a shitload of space in a dangerous and ostentatious display of wealth.

I think this addresses that point.

Doesn’t seem to add anything new to the discussion at all. Maybe you missed the previous pages of this thread.

Anyway this is tiresome now, I’ve explained my viewpoint and the reasons for it, others are very much entitled to their own interpretation. Overall I expect we all agree about a lot more than we disagree about and for the record, I hope Musk’s rising influence gets curtailed very soon.

Well if you will pay $44 billion (not $44 million as the article mistakenly says) for something that really obviously isn't even worth close to that and then make decisions that really fuck it all up and cause major advertisers to leave in droves:

And that's before people start bricking them, keying them, lentiling them and generally more actively laughing at them.
Although most people who have bought them did so before musk came out as a nazi supporter. Might be better just to have easily removed stickers/leaflets tucked under the windscreen wipers (do they have windscreen wipers or do they have some revolutionary system using jets of air that only work when it's not raining) and shamed on the web.

$44 BILLION not million! Shocking that that TechCrunch article mistakes that in the article!

Think it's a good summary tbh rather than scrolling through 50 odd pages. Like the bit at the end criticising people for not calling out obvious facsists as well.

No office for Elon in the White House, looks like the apparatchiks are starting to slide him out of the conversation. Not surprising, it must boil a lot of piss watching Johnny-come-lately making it all about himself and causing loads of policy headaches.
That article says he is getting a DOGE office with 20 staff
“He’s getting an office for about 20 people that we’re hiring to make sure that these [savings] get implemented.”

Yep, and I can tell you if I wanted to sideline someone I'd make sure to keep them busy in a nothing "advisory" job with minimal actual empire around it, while the real conversations happen elsewhere.

sure but DOGE was always the brief - all the "real vice president" stuff was mainly social media posts

Definitely get the impression that musks attention seeking and lack of impulse control will result in a fairly short stint at the heart of the trump junta.
I'm going with escalating twitter spat between him and leading magas, trump weighs in, musk starts calling him a paedo, trump bans tesla cars and x. World laughs (cos what else can you do?)

Oh th vice-president stuff was all waffle for sure, but I don't think Musk wanting a seat in the room and an office in the White House was. He's a congenital power hoarder.

20 people sounds pretty minimal - most of the 435 members of the House of Representatives have staff numbers close to that size, with senators it's closer to 35

Would love it if trump ends up getting him shit.
