Elon Musk - news and discussion

20 people sounds pretty minimal - most of the 435 members of the House of Representatives have staff numbers close to that size, with senators it's closer to 35
The job is to fire people and not replace them tbf .... Vivek Ramaswamy has already been fired! - dont know how big an office you need to do that.....yes the whole thing could fall apart in an afternoon but i expect the deregulation effort will come to some kind of fruition
theyve already started

Gotta wonder how many billions it will be before he worries about getting a bit skint.

His child support commitments must be considerable for starters…
Not sure how much he'll actually be paying though - I'd imagine he'd much prefer the money to go to expensive lawyers fighting for him to pay the bare minimum. (Not that this invalidates your point :) ).

Well it's like Teuchter said. The outrage is coming from people who hate him already, and want to believe that he was Seig Heiling. The lack of uproar is likely because most people probably question that's actually what happened.

It’s clear he was aiming for that heart gesture that Taylor Swift does, but you gotta admit his version was somewhat clumsy.

You don't really address the point. What about Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, aka Tommy Robinson? What do you think of people who are openly Muslim-haters? What word would you rather use?

Well, some Muslim groups share certain aims with Nazis when it comes to the Jews, so it may not be the best application of the word in this case.

With his weird beliefs I think it’s plausible to suppose he wants his genes well looked after. But I have no evidence either way tbh.

That article says he is getting a DOGE office with 20 staff
“He’s getting an office for about 20 people that we’re hiring to make sure that these [savings] get implemented.”
The New York Times reported that the department he is taking over and rebranding (the United States Digital Service) has 200 employees. I expect that he will claim he cut the workforce by 90% to show his genius in cutting costs.

I think its to do with deflating the tyres.

Bloody moderates. A pocketful of 30mm clout nails is cheap, a single one behind each tyre much faster to deploy than letting the air out, relatively silent and will write off the tyre if the nail is positioned near the tyre edge.

Although most people who have bought them did so before musk came out as a nazi supporter. Might be better just to have easily removed stickers/leaflets tucked under the windscreen wipers (do they have windscreen wipers or do they have some revolutionary system using jets of air that only work when it's not raining) and shamed on the web.
With the tacky logo labels they seem to use, removing them should not be that difficult. However, they are all much the same boring design, so easily spotted.

we cannot all be this hero

Anyway, that night, I was telling one of the nurses about my rambling on about Musk, and this started a conversation about Trump, and the nurse thought that Trump had a point about the World Health Organisation. He did not think that the USA should pull out of the WHO, but he thought that it paid too much, and the WHO should be reformed. I pointed out that the USA was the richest country in the world, and therefore should pay more than others.

Latest in the 'not a Nazi' saga...

e2a: from Spectator so no link:
With four weeks to go until Germany heads to the polls for its federal election, Elon Musk has just given his third public endorsement of the country’s far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party. Beaming into the hall live from the States at the party’s campaign launch in Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, the tech billionaire appeared to loud whoops and cheers from the crowd.

Musk started by stating he was ‘very excited’ for the party and repeated his belief that the party is ‘the best hope’ for Germany. Praising the country for having a culture that was ‘unique, and special and good’, US President Donald Trump’s new efficiency tsar proclaimed that ‘it’s okay to be proud to be German’. Referencing Germany’s Nazi past, he declared that there is ‘too much of a focus on past guilt and we should move beyond that.’

fucking hell - he is actually going nazi isnt he? is this cos-play? trolling? meglomania? cos i dont see him as purely - or even partly - ideologically driven - but something more pathological and capricious - more dangerous - but less likely to be succesful than if he had any sort of proper grasp of strategy. or reality.

If it's not 'real' (& remember he does come from Nazi supporting forebears) then the most obvious device is to be an Overton window moving outrider to simultaneously make Trump look not the most far-right nut job in the team and secure the far-right proud boys base as some sort of revolutionary guard.

In the case of Germany business interests play a big part, however short sighted they may be

Tbh I'm not sure how anti EU as such actually comes into play....the EU is obviously a massive trading bloc which could be more useful as a whole. The anti EU stance could just be populist bolstering, shaping politics and ideology...to then use money, diplomatic and digi influence to meddle with other countries preparing for elections. Surely, a EU with predominantly far right governments would be a lot easier to navigate and to find trade agreements and shape policies.
Dunno really, just thinking out aloud....
