World Athletics Championships 2017

The man's been on the fucking training track for God's sake. What's the difference between that and the stadium track? He actually comes into less.contact with other athletes in the stadium. The training track is busy with all nationalities

They didn't even instruct him to move to superset accommodation to his teammates! Utterly ridiculous.

The whole thing is batshit. The guy from the Botswana federation on the coverage sounds baffled. You can guarantee this wouldn't happen if it was a US/Jamaican or evenUK runner.
They wouldn't report it. They have a huge support teams with them and it would be treated very quietly, no approach to the championship medical staff. The only time we'd know about it is if they needed an exemption.

100 yds before he was looking pretty rubbish*, but then......

* for a finalist in a world championship

Langford only 21 so has a bright future. Scraped through his heat as a fastest qualifier, pissed the semi with ease and then a few inches away from a medal tonight.

The pole vault always offers plenty of drama. A few 3rd attempt clearances, past Olympic champ and current world record holder Lavillenie strategically sitting out certain heights (as he always does), the earlier athlete losing his grip and nearly doing himself a mischief etc. And they all seem to be good mates. A shame the Brazilian gold medallist from last year wasn't involved - didn't hear mention of him so presume he's injured.

Iaaf woman talking now about the shits issue (presumably iaaf, didn't see the start of it). She's doing a good job of defending the decision, but the fact they didn't test the feller personally is a massive problem. There's also a big issue about the medical history he gave to the docs. She says he was puking for 18 hours or more whereas his own docs said he only threw up once.

da Silva - pulled out "due to poor form, a calf injury, and back pain," according to Brazilian media.

Pam needs a stiff drink after that. I bet she wasn't expecting to have to do that when she came in this morning
Yeah, I think that was pretty tough. Even if the questions deserved asking, that's a seriously hard environment to answer them in!
"Oh, hey, if you could just explain your decision to these gold medal winning, WR holding mega-athletes on live TV..." :(

I felt sorry for her. It was OTT and became rather irritating, so I switched over to another channel for a couple of mins, thinking that when I switched back they'd be done with her and might actually be showing some athletics. But no, I switched back and they were still grilling the poor woman!

I felt a little uneasy about how the BBC team dealt with it all night. I agree the questions needed asking but there was just something about the Beeb's agenda. I don't know?

I just wish someone at the IAAF had done some joined-up thinking with the interests of the athletics as their first priority.

So they decided that the best advice was 48 hours quarantine. So did they quarantine? No, because Makwala just wandered off and trained and walked round his hotel and everything.

So the effect of their 'quarantine' was just that a potential double world champion was blocked from both of his events. And that was just dumb.

I was just reading about that, I hope he smashes it and goes on to win the final with a world record.
The man deserves a chance. He's in peak condition but he's 30 and time is moving fast past him.

The BBC mentioned that, in Botswana, there's little or no government support for athletics and any medal would open the door to sponsorship for him. I think he has carried himself with dignity and this is a good compromise.

20.53 sounds easy for a man of his calibre although it'll be absolutely pissing with rain when he does his time trial (unlike the heats). It's running another 200m 2 hours later which is toughest part. A welcome gesture nonetheless.
