i wouldn't be surprised if you look at threads about eg iraq or afghanistan to find there is some discussion of weapons because they are germane to the matter at hand. complaining about chat about weapons on a war thread seems daft.

So picture seems confused - Russians are attacking several cities with missiles, air strikes and artillery - but im not sure its (yet) on the scale that people have feared - or what they are targeting. It may be that they are attacking military targets - but not giving a fuck if civilians could get hurt (which is exactly the same MO as USuk in Iraq) - rather than deliberately targeting civilian areas. Also it may be that they just dont have the ammo and capability to launch intensive bombardments on so many targets - especially for a sustained period. Read a few reports about the Russian airforce having gone missing - that they dont actally have the capabiltiy to carry out big air strike operations.
Seems Ukraine still has air defence working as well. And presumably more weapons coming in from the west every day.
Could be Putin wants to terrorise Ukraine into surrendering but dont have overall capability to do lots of Groznys - unless they reach for the vacuum bombs and nukes ...

I’m curious as to why you think it’s worrying? It’s important to remember that weapons are tools specifically made to kill and maim people. But it is not fetishisation to want to know how they work.
It gives greater understanding of the pressures on those people at both ends. But I do acknowledge that your view is probably more aligned with many progressive people than mine is. Which is why I’m curious as to how you arrived at your view.
