Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

The missile is fire and forget, programmed before launch. Once launched, it cannot be controlled or commanded to self-destroy and its target information cannot be changed. Mission planners program the weapon with details of the target and its air defences. The missile follows a path semi-autonomously, on a low flight path guided by GPS and terrain mapping to the target area.[
The name, ffs. Just "Wash and Go."

IIRC Storm Shadow were used on the "Rostov-on-Don" submarine in dry dock at Sevastopol.
Which implies a disconcerting accuracy level.

The missile relies on classified American-owned cartographic data, using Terrain Contour Matching or TERCON, to guide the missile to the target. This gives the American government veto of any sales to foreign countries under ITAR. In 2018 the French government tried to bypass this by creating a “ITAR-free” version of the missile for sale to Egypt that didn’t use TERCON. The missiles would have relied solely on GPS and inertial navigation systems to get to the target. Making the missile more vulnerable to Electronic Warfare. An issue in Ukraine where Russian jams GPS signals, so American approval is necessary for the missiles to operate to peak performance

GNSS, INS and terrain mapping en route, with multi-spectral imaging for target acquisition and final corrections in the terminal bunt. The US input will most likely include, to varying degrees, part GNSS, the terrain mapping and target signature.

So that's Russia's plan: blow up the energy infrastructure so Ukraine citizens freeze to death.

The quicker Putin ends up in jail the better for this planet.

As shitty as this is, it's following the aproach the US used in Iraq. Hitting power infrastructure to reduce the enemies ability to co-ordnate a response. I don't think this will be the clincher for locking him up you know.

Much as I too would like to see this I really can't see it happening I'm afraid. More likely he will croak from one of the rumoured health issues.

I've already stated several times why he should be locked up, so I wasn't presenting the last post as any kind of 'clincher.'

If he's still alive in a decade he'll be touring the studios promoting his new book, on the one show and so on - by 2034 vp will like richard milhous nixon before him have transitioned to the role of elder statesman

The excited missile talk on the thread of late reminds me of the breathless tank chatter there was a while ago.
The only thing that would get me excited is the immediate withdrawal of Russia from the land it has illegally invaded, huge repararations made to Ukraine for the destruction of homes, hospitals and schools and the tens of thousands of innocent people slaughtered, and Putin and his cohorts seeing their last, bloodthirsty days locked up in jail for their multiple crimes against humanity.

I won't be holding my breath for such days though, sadly.
