Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

I’m sure Macron will be delighted to take the credit, if a deal has been agreed where ukraine accepts some of Putin’s terms if he withdraws the imminent threat. I wonder what else has been agreed under the table? US accepting the Nordstream 2 pipeline going ahead?

I wonder who Putin will threaten to invade next time he wants to become even richer?

Probably the only thing we know for sure is that the public will never be told the full story of what this was all about though!

Not convinced this is over but its not just Putin on this...Isn't President Biden's son a bit of an expert on Ukranian energy ?

If it is ove though
All part of a “multi level, exhaustive diplomacy effort” no doubt..!
Been interesting looking at the US tv news stuff, Fox, surprizingly, is the least jingoistic for war out of the channels and its got the ratings too.

I wonder if China is behind the scenes, backing Putin and his reaction to Ukraine joining NATO, but also protecting their own investment in Ukraine.
China is Ukraine’s largest trading partner and China’s State owned industries have heavily financed Ukrainian state owned industries, especially in the energy and agricultural sectors.

Putin's upset over Ukraine joining NATO predates a lot of China's Ukraninan investment, 2008 AND its not like Russia isn't a bigger Sino trading partner.

I possibly thought any advice or input from China will have more influence on Putin than anything from Biden and the other NATO leaders in this instance.

I've been wondering whether all the ramping up of threat level from the US and UK will make it more difficult for Putin to back down. They'll clearly be wanting to claim credit if he does.

Ramping up? UK and US removed troops from UKraine b4 Russia said they were returning troops home. (All beoing well, I wonder how many bits of kit Russia forgets to take with them this time)

The cut & truss of post-brexit international diplomacy is something to behold. Pork markets in despots lands across the world must be trembling right now at the thought of it.

Widely circulated "young woman with a rifle" photo is pure bullshit

and the loathsome Margarita Simonyan has her say.

Fascinating is it not, that the Monroe Doctrine never gets mentioned in situations like this....still hasn't been. Now. much as I have no time for Putin, who is a murderous thug (albeit a clever one) and although I adore the late Marilyn that wasn't the Monroe I was thinking of, but President James Monroe & his 1823 Doctrine. Put it another way: let's suppose Mexico became very friendly with Russia and said it wanted the right to join with them in a military alliance. Would the US be happy? And of course they invaded Mexico in the 19th Century: hence the acquisition of Texas/California. And so on...

For my money, we are on the cusp of a new Imperial era. This sort of thing is part and parcel of it.

China and Russia will carve up Eurasia. Will be interesting to see if any others stick their oar in, though difficult to think who might be a contender. Turkey, I suppose..? India, maybe.

i think what you're trying to say is that you see some very bloody wars on the horizon. which is what i've been anticipating for years.

Wonder what will happen if Putin decides to close russian air space to the 300,000 flights which use it each year
