Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to halt the war in Ukraine with a negotiated ceasefire that recognises the current battlefield lines, four Russian sources told Reuters, saying he is prepared to fight on if Kyiv and the West do not respond.
Three of the sources, familiar with discussions in Putin's entourage, said the veteran Russian leader had expressed frustration to a small group of advisers about what he views as Western-backed attempts to stymie negotiations and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's decision to rule out talks.
...For this account, Reuters spoke to a total of five people who work with or have worked with Putin at a senior level in the political and business worlds. The fifth source did not comment on freezing the war at the current frontlines.

What is to gain for Ukraine from such an offer? Because there will be other conditions which basically neuter their statehood and military capabilities, as in the earlier much mentioned offer of 2022 (which was really a demand for surrender). And in the last few weeks we yet again have evidence of how Russia will behave in occupied territory. It’s no peace if you live the wrong side of the line.
Offers like this are rumoured periodically in a kind of shit posting way, to try and paint the west as aggressors by not pursuing ‘peace’, a peace that means subjugating a nation and boosting the power of a global bad actor. Insincere bollocks. Fuck that.

A total of 24 out of 50 buoys placed to mark sailing routes were removed in the early hours of Thursday, Estonian officials said.
Tensions over the border have risen since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said "such actions are unacceptable".
"This border incident is part of a broader pattern of provocative behaviour and hybrid actions by Russia, including on its maritime and land borders in the Baltic Sea region," he said in a statement.

The idea is to make Ukraine’s second city uninhabitable and drive civilians out, as part of the plan to create what Putin refers to as a ‘sterile area’ on the Russian border, with no viable life within a specific boundary. Other hawks in Russia have suggested making the whole of Ukraine ‘sterile’.

However the bigger picture is that he has lobbied over the years for the EU playing a bigger role in its defence from calling NATO brain dead , to advocating a bigger European arms production and its own security policy , to calling for a bigger European role in NATO.
