Transphobes gunning hard for 'paedophilia' angle all of a sudden

In my early teenage years the library was an absolute godsend for finding out some information about being gay. With no internet I remember having to be a real sleuth in tracking down the relevant books without daring to ask librarians. Funnily enough none of it was in the children's/teenage section but I still managed to track it down and get thoroughly corrupted by Satan.

I had a friend who got pregnant because she was told by her boyfriend that she couldn't get pregnant if he pulled out. When the doctor told her that she was pregnant, she asked "will birth control help?" in the most innocent voice I think I've ever heard come out of an adult's mouth. I'm not certain whose eyes bugged out more, mine or the doctor's. Mutual facepalms followed.

(Her mother blamed me for the fact that she got pregnant. Yep. I got a girl pregnant in college!).

There are several professional organisations, CILIP being the main one. Public libraries are run by local councils though so there is not necessarily that much autonomy for librarians who work for them. Some may be more likely to bow to external pressure than others, depending on who runs them and what kind of voter they answer to.
Look what happened in Keighley this week. The Mayor had to resign after participating in a Pride event and then fulsomely apologising to some of his more reactionary voters for doing so, displeasing both sides for his lack of backbone.

sounds definitely like something to refer as high up the chain locally as possible rather than deal with at local branch level.
Aye, that’s why we’ve been advised not to get into a dialogue or share our own views, but to take their details for a senior person to contact them with the official line.

So, the 'book' has been banned from the library. What next? The 'book' being banned from the shops?

have a feeling it's going to get worse for a while this country always copies America and the endless fools getting dragged into dodgy shite cause the don't understand that basic concept of what being called woke is.

speak to the mother yesterday and some has suggested James Lindsay lectures to her because it anti woke content .. fille her in in the cunt beforehand thankfully

This recent talk from Judith Butler is very relevant to this thread. It's a long and dense exploration of anti-trans ideology (not in the doctrinaire sense of ideology). It's made me realise that I've actually been thinking of it as a backlash and as cynical distraction tactics for conservative economic failures and therefore underestimating it as it is linked to other patriarchal even fascistic fears and passions.

I've never seen the Left turn out fervently for gay rights as it turns out so fervently for trans rights. Can I have a witness?
Having had to wade through a mass of Socialist Worker placard waving types to get to the front of the Pride march in 1986, I'm not so sure about that.

They were always good at turning up with thousands of banners. To everything. I sometimes used a banner with the swappie bit ripped off. I don't recall the SW marching with us though, well not many of them anyway, never got the impression they cared about queer issues. So many of the leftie types I met in the 80s thought campaigning for L&G rights was a bourgeoise affectation and I recall communist actully telling me we would have to wait 200 years after the revolution.

Let's hope their social media posts are opened for all to see if they ever get taken to court for this.

My oldest was at the protest - the violence was very early on as the organisers were setting up and fortunately protest went well but worrying to see escalation that the fash are now happy to get in there and do some violence against peaceful protestors. With the police, of course, doing close to fuck all about it.

They tend to eventually arrest the fash for the sake of appearances, but not before they've let them have their 'fun'.
