Tactical voting isn't the same as protest voting.

There's a big overlap between them.

Want to hit the Tories > vote Reform to split their vote and allow another party to take the seat. Reform not standing > stay at home or vote for another party to unseat a Tory.

I've had nothing through the door and no canvassing. My partner (next constituency over) has had a leaflet from the Communist Party (who were also holding a banner on the main road earlier in the week too). Leaflet contains a transphobic dogwhistle.

Partner had leaflets through door from Workers Party (no mention of Palestine or immigration- all nationalisation reindustrialisation, social housing, and 'end to thought policing culture') and Reform UK (generic anti-immigrant racism).

In my constituency one independant councillor (Habib Rahman, ex-Labour Councillor and Lord Mayor) is complaining to Electoral Commission about another indepndant candidate (Yvonne Ridley - yes thst one) after he and his family got homophobic and islamophobic hate messages due to his pro-LGBT rights stance while being openly muslim.

Seeing quite a few more window posters going up here in Reading Central. A smattering of Labour and (increasingly) a lot of Greens.

That's pretty normal round here...but what's interesting is that Labour delivered leaflets recently with a mini window poster on and a few of those have gone up. The Greens (afaik) haven't delivered any posters and don't appear to be campaigning locally - I guess they're focusing on the target seats.

So, the Green posters must be ones people have held onto from previous local elections...in fact one poster I saw had the candidate's name from last year's locals.

Which implies a kinda spontaneous bottom up "Green surge". The last time I saw something like this was the home printed Labour posters in 2017 when Reading East was an unexpected gain that even caught the new MP out.

Do I think the Greens are gonna win Reading Central? Not a chance, but it might - like 2017 - be an indication of some electoral shift going on 'under the radar' that the politicos haven't yet picked up on

presume the new reading central constituency is safe enough labour for a green vote not to help the tories? (maybe not this time but maybe in the future if the tories recover a bit?) the old reading east + west seats were fairly marginal.

not had any communications from green / labour / refuck here (wokingham) yet. lib dems using shit in rivers etc as one of their main campaigning points (along with NHS and cost of living) including one of yesterday's 3 leaflets which was printed in green.

Regardless of which party it is, I've always found it a bit sad when people put posters in their windows or placards on their lawns at election time.

If you're into licking boots that's fine, but it's a privacy of your own home thing surely to god.

I also find it odd that people still allow estate agents' to put up 'for sale' boards in this day and age, when properties for sale are found via online searches, they are just free advertising for the estate agents.

When Mrs Q and I moved here we left Eldest and Son with their grandparents and just came and drove around to get a feel for the area, if we liked it and saw an estate agents board we would visit the estate agent or ring them up. I would imagine people still do that but just substitute visiting the website rather than visiting the estate agents.
As political posters well if you sincerely believe you are rooting for the right team then why not declare that fact for all to see? That said I would be more concerned about getting a brick through the window than anything else.

When Mrs Q and I moved here we left Eldest and Son with their grandparents and just came and drove around to get a feel for the area, if we liked it and saw an estate agents board we would visit the estate agent or ring them up.

I would imagine people still do that but just substitute visiting the website rather than visiting the estate agents.

I had three estate agents around last year, two independent ones said they didn't bother with boards any longer, as people search the property websites and google maps/street and satellite views to check out the area. The other more corporate one seemed to want to put one up, despite there being no passing traffic, in a close of just 8 properties.

We moved down to the East Midlands in 1991 and moved again in 2000. The first time we were coming in totally blind since (other than an unfortunate incident involving the Police Armed Response unit at Derby Bus Station in 1980) neither of us had any experience of the area. The second time we knew both what we wanted and where we wanted it (well she did I just went along with her)

It's also a talking point - I've had three people in our village start conversations about politics, and I hope I might have swayed them, or at least stopped them voting Tory.

It seems rather a small effort to go to to not have the next five years of my life run by Sunak, Truss, and Braverman...

There was another post somewhere that the Labour Party is putting more money into internet publicity in Holborn and St Pancras than anywhere else.

The Farage has a knack of dominating the news , his latest blame the west , not Putin statement might just be a farage fuck up (finally). Whilst it won't mean much to the baked in Reform vote (and he waited until the postal votes were issued) it may get some of the soft Reform voters to start thinking wtf , he's a headcase .

The Conservative’s data chief has become the fourth person in the party to be investigated for alleged betting on the date of the general election.

Nick Mason has taken a leave of absence after becoming the latest Tory to be reportedly investigated by the Gambling Commission for allegedly betting on the timing of the election before the date had been announced.

The latest allegations were published by The Sunday Times, which claimed dozens of bets had been placed with potential winnings worth thousands of pounds. A spokesman for the official told the paper that he denied wrongdoing.

The revelations are a fresh blow to Rishi Sunak’s hopes of getting the Tory election campaign on track after three other Conservative figures were caught up in the scandal.

They are Craig Williams, Mr Sunak’s parliamentary private secretary standing in Montgomeryshire, Laura Saunders, standing in Bristol North West, and her husband Tony Lee, director of campaigning at the party.

Prior to this latest revelation, Michael Gove suggested this scandal was proving as damaging as partygate, adding: “It looks like one rule for them and one rule for us.”
