If there was even the most moderate social democrat in charge of Labour, the right wing press would be lined up behind the Tories, even if a bit less enthusiastically. In a sense, Starmer has succeeded in his plan for Labour, he's made the party one that even the most hideous in society won't object to.

Mate of mine is over there at the mo - he was chatting to a French General who observed, Sotto Voce that (and I quote) 'the fucking Germans hung around in Normandy longer than your bloke...'
It did not go unobserved, nor unremarked.
Starmer however was in good form apparently: spoke to everyone both socially and politically/policy wise. Was there for all the important bits and the photo ops. He'll slot right in.

I really don’t want Reform taking the place of the Tories, but if they did start getting a load of people elected off the back of Tory switchers, imagine how many utter wierdos and sociopaths they’d put in Parliament. Does it matter? If the country unites in getting the Tories out, Labour is always the beneficiary. Generic anti-Sunak messaging is a shrewd choice.
Might be deliberately ambiguous, Labour probably want Reform to take votes from the Tories.
Be careful what you wish for though...
