Of all the shit Starmer is going to pull a levelling up minister is something that I can't fault.
Sure there are parts of the North that are very well off, and deprived parts of the South - but there is a gap and it is immense. And from a sheer electoral point of view if makes sense, people up here feel (whether fairly or unfairly) neglected by London/Westminster.

Do you have a personal opinion on this, rather than sticking uo some laudatory guff from Twitter? Deputy Prime Minister is an impressive title for someone that the actual Prime Minister wants to put out to grass. It's not a job from which the incumbent goes on to greater things

Oh sure, what it is going to amount to is more of the bollocks of the last 10+ years but a proper levelling up minister responsible for improving the conditions of people in deprived areas (not only "the North" but thought out the UK) is a good idea.
And on a purely PR level I think it is one of Starmer's better moves.

They've given her housing, which is a hospital pass because housing in this country is irrevocably fucked.
