The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

Woke up to grey skies and drizzle.

Glad Truss has gone. Sad that Refuk has done well and that Farage is now in parliament along with at least Lee Anderson.

Worried about the far right rise in this body politic and whether Starmer can deal with it.

Just went to the shop, two people talking about how they voted reform and how labour are wank. Labour didn't win here, the Libdems did hugely. Their vote was 4x the Reform so I should keep it in proportion but that undercurrent is clearly there. Labour's landslide is very shallow and the turnout was low.

I thought you were in Weston-super-Mare?

EDIT just seen your latest post.

Well being partially awake and partly asleep doesn't seem to have been too bad except that I probably missed various celeb losses in the small hours.

So what I think is that:

Mark Harper lost his seat by a mere 200 odd votes
Rees Mogg lost his seat, yay
Jeremy Hunt didn't lose his seat but kept it by a small amount
Grant Shapps lost his seat
Rishy Sunak kept his seat
Gorgeous George Galloway lost his seat

What did I miss?

Oh yes and Farage got elected Grr
And Corbyn was elected as an independent

He will fuel it.
Lean into it, more likely. I don't think he'll fuel it per se.

I am v. concerned about REform and the thought of them in Parliament is pretty sickening. Farage will be frog faced with glee, despite doing fuck all to help Clacton, or indeed anyone that isn't Aaron Banks, Steve Bannon, or Donald Trump

It is a Labour party that endorses the narrative and grievances of the right while offering no serious solutions.

The existence of Reform and the votes that they take from the Tories, could keep the Tories out of government for two or three elections.

Interesting analysis in the link that petee posted earlier from Bloomberg
