I read Satanic Verses back in the day. Quite enjoyed it. Couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Still can't. Just a book. An easier read than the Koran, which given that Allah is all powerful etc says quite a bit.

I think you miss the point if you think it's reading the book that offends people. I doubt anybody who professed offence had actually read it.

Not sure why you would think it would be logical. Rushdie's book was publicly pronounced to be an insult to Islam. What is more, to a certain way of thinking, he is an apostate, which is a heinous crime in itself.

Of course it can be revoked, don't be so daft. It'd be strange if any religious scholar could issue a fatwa and it becomes eternal after his death. Anyway if they took away the money it'd be effectively revoked anyway
