Ministers target July 4th for reopening of England’s pubs and restaurants

Are the bar staff and waiting staff to be the escorts I wonder, or will they have dedicated toilet monitors.
If Weatherspoons are having those, whoever has that job will be as fit as a butcher's dog by the end of their first shift.
A mate runs a security firm, they mainly do static sites, i.e. building sites, office buildings, etc.

They have been inundated with calls from pubs looking for security staff, and at least one council wanting them to do mobile patrols around various local pubs to make sure they are keeping within the rules.
Sensible this.
Another expense for pubs facing a lower income though :(

You may want to add one thing to your bullet points, regarding having to hand over your details, so the pub can maintain a record for NHS track & trace, because that's a biggie for some.
I will thanks, but from what I've read people can just give any name as most pubs won't be asking for scannable ID. There's been no standardised registers provided by the government for pubs to use and it all seems very vague and half-arsed.

Some bars were already set up for scanning ID on entry but these were the places that had late licenses and probably had several police / council warnings. I can't see many other places playing more than lip service to the ID thing.

ETA: It will be a lot easier for restaurants particularly if you're only doing advance bookings. I'm not convinced your average curry house etc will that bothered.

They're always up several flights of stairs, along at least one corridor, second on the left. Or if you happen to be on the same floor, through a maze of tables, left by the pillar, round the corner, near the fire exit.

That's largely because a lot of Spoons occupy big, lovely listed old buildings. Somewhat ironically.

I love a spoons and everybody's used to the app (I haven't actually gone to the bar to order a drink in years) so they're the only pubs I'll be checking out. Just not this saturday.

the moon under water in barnet: down one flight of stairs (no longer a spoons)
the tally ho, north finchley: used to be two gents on the ground floor, think there were some upstairs too. neither involved a maze (no longer a spoons)
the spoons at liverpool street: by the rh end of the bar
i could continue. the only one i can think of which involves more than one flight of steps is at grimsby's yarborough hotel, which has the largest toilets of any pub i have ever been in, with something like 8 cubicles in the gents. i can't speak to accommodation in the ladies

I never thought I'd say this.....but I'm so glad I'm on nights this weekend. I look forward to witnessing the early Sunday morning mayhem as I drive home, I'm going to go the Stokescroft direction for my own entertainment. Hopefully the pubs openings will not be reflected by lots of emergency surgery.....fingers crossed.

Is there an option for pubs with gardens just to open the garden (with an arrangement to go to the loo) with more relaxed rules?

I guess not. I think that would have been a sensible move, though.

Nothing to say pubs can't make that decision themselves. Its a question of financial viability though I would have thought given the UK weather.

Yeah. Our culture sadly isn't quite set up for it. Germany has lots of enormous beer gardens, which I believe reopened a while ago. With a bit of imagination, we could create some temporary ones, I would have thought. Yes our summers are shit, but surely we should all be being encouraged to socialise outside for the moment.

The one closest to me is garden only, it’s quite a big garden too. As much as I’d love a few pints this place (as I’ve posted before) is a racist shithole so no thanks.

We were chatting earlier and we’re more than happy to wait.

Same here, not sure if I can be arsed with the booking tables, ordering by app marlarkey. I'll see what the Billet (my local) is doing, they have a massive garden so it might be ok :hmm:
The USP of our local, The Prince Alfred, is the cosy little Victorian bar. Social distancing would go out of the window if more than half a dozen people turned up and there's no garden, so I can't see us going there any time soon no matter what happens. The pubs that will be most able to cope with this are the big ones with plenty of space which generally aren't the ones which appeal much anyway. Given that Saturday is likely to be hell on earth in boozers as everyone crams themselves into anywhere that's open, I think we'll give it a miss for a couple of weeks til it all settles down a bit.

That's not irony but a very significant part of Weatherspoons business practice. They have almost 1000 pubs and hotels in the UK, half of which they own the freeholds to. Their model is to concentrate on building a significant portfolio of restored historic property so they're asset building as well as flogging booze. Hence you'll often find that your local Spoons is one of the oldest/most expensive/most significant/desirable/etc., properties in town.

Maybe add a Tulse Hill section? Though we've only got a couple of pubs!

Your bullet points make the whole thing properly grim. Which I'm sure will be the case. I'll stick to the park thanks, although I think the Railway might be in a better position than others to handle it all.
I'll add some more pubs soon and include Tulse Hill..

Ah so literal. :(

Although I can think of 3 where the non disabled loos are up at least 2 flights of stairs.

Anyway, I'm minded to boicot them for non toilet situated reasons hence forth.

Just heard a very sensible landlady on BBC London, explaining why there was no way on earth she was opening her pub this weekend, despite taking a massive financial hit (& not being judgemental of local pubs whose circumstances meant it was easier for them to open).

It was actually a huge relief to hear her lay it out like that - I guess if you have a favourite pub that isn't opening yet, it would be good to show them some support this weekend - vocal, ££s if they have a crowdfunder, buying takeout, whatever...
