IRAQ: latest news and developments

Please use this thread to add the latest news and developments about in the war in Iraq.

Explosions are being reported in Kuwait City.

Now they are saying it was just "echoes" from bombs going off in the desert.

It will be a long while before we will have any real facts to go on, obviously.

Can I suggest that people posting info to this thread also include the news source they are quoting.

are there any decent sources for news on the web? cnn is full of worthless blather (they are not even bothering to report the world wide comdemnation of the war), the bbc site hasn't changed for quite awhile, trying to reach al jazeera's web page took me to some republican fuckfest.

are there any sites that are actually reporting news? or are all sources of information under lockdown?

Try Sky News

They're now reporting that some Iraqi troops are surrendering to Kurdish forces, quoting the source as the Iranian news agency. Probably just another rumour.

4 Iraqi civilians injured and one dead (reports from news stations and internet). This has yet to be confirmed by west but I don't doubt it.

You got to be joking!!! A link to one of the most pro-war companies?

[Ananova] Earlier attack on Northern Kuwait prompted chemical alert for British soldiers - though to be precautionary.

[Ananova] Thousands protest in Sydney blocking main streets

Motion passed is Australia's upper house calling for troops to be withdrawn (sadly only symbolic)

[Ananova again]

In a statement, India's Foreign Ministry said: "The military action lacks justification. We sincerely hope that the Iraqi people will not be subject to further hardships, sufferings, loss of lives and damage to property from an extended military cooperation."

Also: street protests, burning of US flag etc

0308 The main frequency of Iraqi state radio is reported to have been taken over by the US military.

erm, how? They are jamming the entire country?
What with???? Satellites?

Heard about this last night, they've basically got a transport plane stuffed with electronics that gets a signal sent to it via a ground station, strong enough to break into sent frequencies by Iraq TV, and overlays their own signal.

Not necessarily symbolic !
it was the Senate (upper house) over - riding the house of representatives which caused the queen of australia to allow an elected government to be sacked

Why are the Aussies getting involved in this shit? How short are their
memories?

Then again, they probably thought Vietnam would just be a couple of rice
farmers in silly hats, innit

what do you mean by this ?

1. a hell of a lot of us don't want to be involved in this shit !

2. We never thought of the Vietnamese people like this - a bloody lot of us went to jail because we didn't

wrong thread perphaps, but i was merely wondering why the aussies are getting involved. Referring to vietnam.

Calm down.

here in canada: canada am (network t.v. morning idiotfest) is doing a weather report - complete with little sun and cloud graphics - on iraq. perfect bombing conditions!
otherwise - much reporting about how much nothing there is to report. lots of conjecture.

statements like 'i have not heard any explosions'. considerable war porn.

I wonder myself mate

because we have leaders who bow and scrape to uncle sam, more's the bloody pity

yes, short memories are rife, shameful stuff

Australia are getting involved because they are a bunch of racist shits and always have been. They even treat their own indigenous people like the dirt from the bottom of their shoes.

They also have HUGE economic problems which explains much.
