Glastonbury 2011

I would have thought so. Some of my friends were Shelter volunteers last year and I think they were in on Tues (It's all a bit hazy). From what I remember Shelter have a camp outside the main fence.

No-one seems to be dropping out of our crew, which is a pain in the butt as I can't get my gf and a mate in volunteering. There were loads of people dropping out last year as well. I suppose it's too late for other volunteering options?

Am starting to think Glasto isn't going to happen for me this year. Am on the waiting list for Oxfam but I reckon the chances of many people dropping out are pretty slim. There's the SLS route but I'd need to pay a deposit to them and as I want to do Bestival with Oxfam are going fast on both need to book soon.

Can't afford to pay a deposit with both so need to choose quick whether a) I do Glasto with SLS or b) Bestival with Oxfam

Agggghhhh!

More for your money with Glasto... alot more if you arrive earlier than you need to. :)

And it leaves time for possible other blags on Bestival.

All of this is true...if however I'm not allowed to stay in the Oxfam field with certain people it'll kinda ruin the whole thing somewhat.

Where LMHF? Doesnt she pop in much nowadays??

I am bringing my bub for first time, do I just arrive with her in tow? No one has asked me if I am bringing a child? Under 12....

Also, oh experienced children bringers of urban, is Cockmills the best place for family camping? Looks it to me.... Where would you suggest to park? Isnt E car park the one thats hilly? Mr V likes to return to our vehicle regular and we keep lots of our bits there to save bringing it all into the tent day one.

74 sleeps!!!!!!!!!!11

Hurrah! All paid but no Nate. : (

I wouldn't bank on getting into Cockmills, it was full really early last year whilst the other family camping to the west of the site had shitloads of space. Everyone wants Cockmills as it's next to kids field.

I think the best car park for Cockmills is east, west is doable but a bit of a trek.

East is the one with the hill of death!

Do shelter volunteers get access to the site on the tuesday night?

Yes

I take it you mean your working for Avalon Bars and Events on behalf of Shelter.

did you read the faq ?

http://england.shelter.org.uk/what_you_can_do/volunteer_at_glastonbury/faqs

When do I have to be free?

You need to be available from Tuesday 21 to Monday 27 June (inclusive of travel dates). Avalon will be providing free transport from major cities which we recommend you use. Your shifts could be at any time from the Wednesday to Sunday.

Will I need ID?

You will be asked by Avalon Bars and Events to provide a photocopy of your passport or other suitable ID four weeks before the festival starts. This information will be used for verification of identity at the event by our volunteer staff team.

After we have verified your ID at the festival, you will be issued with an event wristband which allows you access to and from the event. This wristband denotes that you are officially part of the staff and Glastonbury festival workforce at the event. In addition to the wristband, all volunteers will be issued with a festival pass and lanyard by Avalon Bars and Events Ltd. This denotes that you have specific access to the bars and Avalon Camping. Both forms of ID will be required (wristband and festival pass) at all times. All volunteers will be issued with both the wristband and festival pass at the event and on verification of identity.

I know the people who run Avalon and you will find them to be very professional providing you don't try to ask for a shift change as they will tell you that is not possible.

East is the one with the hill of death!

The thing with the other family camping is that its at the top of the site, past the Dance Village/Peel tent. Hmmm we shall have a meeting... I dont know if MrV would prefer the trek or the hill of death.... Which car park do you favour? You know how he does like to traipse back and forth ;)

I always head for west because we usually end up in or near pennards. The only time we've been in east is the year I had to get the bloody coach.

If you want cockmills you will need to be there really early although if your tent isn't too massive you should be able to slot in somewhere.

Not sure what they're doing about gates this year, last year was a shambles.

As me and V will be carrying our own stuff now we'll probably be in dance camping or something. : D

Arse. Double Arse.

Well, if you are gonna pitch in dance camping, we may as well go for the new family site there.... we shall see...

Pulp no show?

Arsecheese!!!!

Very annoying indeed if they end up doing other festivals and not Glasto ..... :( :(

We actually specifically asked the info people for time off for Pulp's set, when we applied ...

I've had a look at efestivals and there is someone on there called mmmm beer who claims to have a close connection to one of the band and insists they are playing. Apparently it can't be announced yet as reading/leeds etc not sold out

He basically said if they aren't playing someone needs to tell the band. Not sure if he's genuine but he seems so.

They are now speculating that pulp will be the special guests in the park on Friday night but who knows.

Michael Eavis has said when asked in an interview that they're not playing and that there's no point because they're playing everywhere else. That's crap though because most of the acts there will be doing the circuit.

They are saying that eavis only commented when pushed and had to say no. Hmmmm

I'm absolutely gutted tbh, I really don't want to go to wireless but I can't not see them...

madamv-no plans to camp there, just joking that we might not want to lug the stuff any further!

I would like Holts but that filled very quickly last year so probably pennards if we can get in. Bloody glade crew have quite a chunk of it again I see.

Kids under 13 just walk in, for free. No child tickets or need to register them at all. If they are near the age limit and look maybe older, its a good idea to bring something to show they are under the age, but that's all. Then all you have to do is try not to lose them once inside......

Giles..

I know Mmmm Beer ' face to face ' { if you see what I mean } and his real name is John and I normally meet up with him and his son { and whole gang of other people from efestivals who all camp with him } each year for a drink and he is no bullshiter.

There is no way he would make up a story or make claims that are untrue.

He states ' My source is a band member!! But not Jarvis ' and I am 100 % confident that he would not make this up.

Of course there may be plans that they are playing that get changed over something that he does not know about.

he is well respected on efestivals.

time will tell.

I remember in 2009 on a Glasto message board a person posted a question that went something like

' I am part of Oasis set up crew - which gate do we enter to reach the production road ? '

this sparked a huge response and everyone was planning to watch Oasis - fast forward two months when the original poster posted his thanks and then left the following ps

' by the way I am part of the set up crew for Oasis Security ' { or may have been Oasis Catering }

This did not go down well as you can imagine.

Not sure if the guy had deliberately dropped off the full name.

I have looked at the posts that John has been making and he does sound very confident.

As you will be aware there is strong links between Glastonbury and Reading as they both have the same promoter in Festival Republic so they are bound to think ' for the greater good ' so the Reading ticket sales does sound very plausible.

By the way this is a link from November

Just confirmed my work for this year, so I'll be in Williams again, this time with campervan.

Tuesday night urb crew drinks round at mine again then. With a fridge! :)

So i have work sorted with green police for glastonbury! Very cool, was all pumped up and looking forward to making my costume....

....however. I realised the other day I agreed to go away for a week with my family and my mum's coughed up money already. Fuck. Got the dates mixed up, total fail of the year there. I did agree to do family stuff first though, would feel pretty guilty messing plans up.

:( Glastonbury :(

You just show up with small people in tow, no need to let anyone know you're bringing them in advance. I suggest if you can get hold of those ID/wristband thingys they use in hospital you get one per kiddie, and write your contact number on it. if anyone knows where you can get any please can they let me know?!?!

Cockmills is closest to the kidz field and is the most popular with families (for that reason I think). East car parks are far & away the closest. the walk from West took LMHF over an hour last year, iirc. A word of warning though - it was hell on earth in there last year, got very full even more quickly than it has in the past and was very stressful - even for me & I didn't have kids, I was just meeting up with people with kids. It might not be so bad this year - no football and the weather was especially good last year, but you really will need to arrive early if your heart is set on Cockmills.

Im taking my nephew this year (Im forgetting why I thought this was a good idea) and Im tempted to head to Wickets to give the small plugged-in-to-the-mains-24/7-terrorist a bit more room to run about in! :D I'll wait & see what the rest of the gang want to do before making concrete plans, though.

You KNOW what's more important man  :hmm:

And "family bollocks" as it's officially known, aka "grandmother's cats' weddings" and suchlike, simply do not cut it .... ;)

Ooooohhhheeeee, so there's hope!

Thanks WBC. : )

Very much seconded! :)

In fact thanks both! I'm not on the efests boards very much at all these days, and I would have missed out on the mmmbeer posts there completely had they not been repeated here ...

to be honest the efests boards attract a lot of students with bloody surveys - God knows what they did before the Internet.

this year is panning out well - just got a place at Bob Dylan and will also be working at Hop Farm and Latitude so its going to be a very busy June/July - I worked at the first London Fleadh 21 years ago and have not missed any { Vince cant use that name for legal reasons hence the change to Feis } so it will be nice to get back to Finsbury Park although its bloody close to Glastonbury.

Time is marching on

Thanks for that mysterygirl..... I can get plenty of those ID bands from work. PM me your address and I can send you a couple if you like.
