Glastonbury 2011

I would have loved to see the Cure :(

I am finding it too big tbh - but thought it was just me being wimpish.

And cannot cope with that amount of people when they are relatively confined to pathways because of the mud. That is scary.

However I had some brilliant times. I really want to mention Kitty, Daisy and lewis at the Avalon, on Sunday. They are stylish, beautiful, rock like there's no tomorrow and Lewis has a wicked wit :) and you actually get to see acts in smaller tents.

Well we did anyway. Perhaps we were lucky, but we saw Warpaint, the Horrors and Glasvegas up close and personal in the JP tent. We had a relatively good view of Morrisey, but not as intimate obviously.

I'm glad there's a year off now, I need to work out how much I want to go again.

I'm off to Belladrum next, I think that's about my level at the moment, although I really, really fancy Endorse It.

Hmmm... strange to hear people say it's too big. That overwhelming sense of scale is definately a big part of the buzz for me. I love feeling like I'm immersed in a big grinning, debauched mulch that stretches as far as the eye can see.

You can't do everything - but that's part of the point, isn't it? To enjoy whatever it is that's happening around you at the time. I'd hate it to get smaller (unless it had to to survive).

On that note - I had a fab time this year, mixing it up a bit between day and night stuff. It was only after the festival finished that I realised that I hadn't been to The Park once during the entire festival! (usually one of my favourite areas).

It's all about your mindset: it is that big, and there's so much on, that (especially if its muddy, which makes walking harder) you're better off not spending all day on endless treks back and forth to catch everything you like the look of. Better to find somewhere where there's a fair bit on within a short walk, that most of your mates are up for, and stay there. If this place happens to be within easy reach of the Brothers bar, so much the better. We spent the last afternoon and night in Arcadia from quite early, and were glad to miss the mad crowds and stuff getting there later on. Good music all evening way before the whole Arcadia show started. There are almost separate festies all going on in different places. Find one you like and stck with it, is what I think.

Giles..

When I say 'big' I really mean the sheer volume of people trapped by mud into constricted walkways and apparently possessed by some sheep like evil spirit!

Not my favourite experience.

in fact we did spend most of Saturday in or near the JP tent, just getting to it from adjacent bar was another 'experience'. :D Mud unrivalled in glueyness.

How big is the site in comparison to large city centres? Just wondering like.

This should give some sort of idea. Don't know if that includes car parks and stuff though.

FTR the size of the fest doesn't bother me, even in mud really. I just think it would be silly if they went bankrupt without downsizing first.

cheers, that's really good :)

- Bangface on Thursday Night (wish I hadn't left this for the crappy dance area!! you'd have loved it Sim...).

Yeah my mates (orange jumpsuits) said it was a fucking blast :(

Their 8th bday party in londontown on october if you fancy a trip down ;)

The fact there is some family interest involved is good but what will happen with the farm? Does Emily want to be out milking the cows at 5am every morning?
Michael Eavis hasn't lived on the farm for a while - Emily lives there, and he lives elsewhere. Think he still goes over to sort the cows though.

He's had a farm manager for years, AFAIK.

I'm sure he still takes an interest, but no daily responsibilities.

Have you seen the cool official 'J.M. Eavis - breeder of pedigre friesans' or whatever sign on a poll down at Red Gate? :D

He still makes sure his name's on it, even though the farm's got a pretty large full time staff year round. Worked with one of the milkmaids there last year.
