Food Shortages

I don't think anyone is really saying the whole thing is simply a figment of anyone's imagination, though some have been trying to suggest that people are saying that.

There clearly are shortages in some things and in some areas, they have been getting worse and are likely to get even worse.

It's the reasons for the shortages which are contested.
A poorly planned Brexit based on lies?

Panic buying doesn't seem to have set it, but I assume it will unless they put limits on things.

Other half was at Costco last night and was going to pick up a dozen tinned tomatoes, but they were out, because apparently a guy had just bought multiples pf those for his corner shop - I'm assuming that wouldn't normally happen but he's having supply issues with his normal guys.

Plan to start filling it with tins etc gradually over the next few weeks. Just need to collect the bracket which is still languishing in my dads garage.

Before she moved in with us just before Lockdown 1, Pollyanna (aka my son's girlfriend) lived with three other nurses in a shared house and Mrs Q (who is her biggest fan) regularly gave her a bag load of groceries when they were short.
I may have been hoarding but I was hoarding to support the NHS, I considered posting my fucking grocery bill to Hancock.
No-one supports a payrise for nurses more than me since it would personally save me a fortune.

Bulk buying and storage for a no deal. Stock levels running down?
Some of that probably, but i don't think it's as much about stocks of food as it is about moving the food onto the shelves. When the whole issue first surfaced early Summer (?) we were all told to call it the "pingdemic", but its grown consistently worse since then. Maybe its just that HGV drivers are continuing to leave, the job or the country.

You can get long life plant "milk"
Steady on, things aren't that desperate, surely

Joking aside, are supplies of plant based milk holding up? I've seen reports of dairy milk being unavailable in some supermarkets, though I haven't actually witnessed it myself.

I guess if dairy milk really is unavailable, some people will switch to plant milks, and that may become harder for vegans to source as a result.

Indeed, and there have been a number of valid reasons combining in many cases.

We have not been treated to seeing the effects of Brexit in isolation. The effects have been combined with pandemic effects, and in the case of CO2 shortages, the situation with gas supply and price.

I find it futile to try to argue that one thing is responsible in isolation. But this is no comfort, especially since some of the greatest disasters tend to be down to a combination of errors and sorry circumstances.

I've actually been surrpised at how well 'just in time' systems have coped during the pandemic so far. But Im not complacent about it, there are strong hints evident in regards how much potential doom cascading failures and combinations of difficult circumstances can bring.

I'm seeing empty shelves in the US too, so its not entirely due to Brexit.

I went to a Family Dollar last week that was mostly empty. I think in their case, its due to a backlog of goods being offloaded from China. They're pretty dependent on their China supply-chain. There's at least 60 ships waiting to be unloaded in Los Angeles:

There's also a shortage of truck drivers:

There's also some shortage of meat due to a fire at a processing plant and then there's there shortage of alcohol developing.:

Look for a run on the stores if there's an alcohol shortage.
