Simple but smart. I mean they could leave Jimmy out entirely for the series if the pitches are gonna be like this.
Yep I'd much rather a risky declaration that might backfire but makes a game of it than the slow grind to a draw or, as TMS put it, let's get to lunch then think about some runs later.Lots of bitching going on the Guardian cricket forum about the declaration. But hey, they hired a coach who has never coached red ball cricket, only coached in the IPL and appointed a bit of a nutter as captain. This would have been an absolute grind without those two, imagine Cook in charge of this. So let it go. It's bonkers but its quite enjoyable, even if Pakistan win.
I hope there's a plan to this - work really hard on the ball and get it to reverse. As we know, nowadays Anderson is a master of reverse swing - if it's there for anyone, he'll find it.Simple but smart. I mean they could leave Jimmy out entirely for the series if the pitches are gonna be like this.

I'm going to make a prediction: Pakistan to win by 5 wickets.
I think the declaration was reckless, but Stokes has proved me wrong before...
yep. I'd have applauded it even if Pakistan had won. The full house on the final day says it all. Test cricket needs this, and test cricket is very very far from dead. It's gonna fail at some point. But the Stokes/McCullum era is fantastic. Even if they do lose they'll still be applauded. How the hell did they win on that road.
Stokes has won 7 out of 8 since he took over
A couple more and I might be coming round to changing my mind that this has been a series of (now) 7 flukes
Where the hell are they gonna squeeze Bairstow into this side when he's fit again? Surely they can't take Brook out.
