England Cricket 2022

Pope only made 2 errors really. The tough chance down leg and not going for the catch that went between him and Root. Granted that particular one could have been very expensive (it was the last wicket). But yeh, I'd feel a bit hard done by if I was Foakes.

I think we’re going to be in for more blitzkrieg cricket. The shorter expected days must be the motivation for not including the relatively slow scoring Foakes.

Foakes does appear to be very unlucky and miss out a lot. I'd think England had something personal against him but I recently looked at Stokes' Twitter and in one of his most recent posts he's bigging up Foakes, shows a video of one of the most outrageous 'how did he do that?' stumpings you'll ever see.

Jacks is bowling the shite down the leg side here btw.

Ignore the fact I can't link Twitter properly. Click the video.

By contrast of course, Pope is an extraordinarily lucky cricketer. So many chances. Three centuries in 30 Tests and the one he scored at Trent Bridge last year was his first ever century scored north of the Thames. Because he's happy on a flat track (The Oval) and, incidentally, has a terrible 2nd innings record in Tests. Highest score of 82 - followed by a next highest of 28. Averages 16 in 25 innings.

Maybe being a WK/batsman as opposed to a BATSMAN/wicket-keeper he justifies his place a little more.

It wasnt the most elegant effort at a reverse sweep I've ever seen. I'm sure he got a bit of stick in the dressing room

A good description. He's actually a very good commentator/analyst. I assume he's being groomed for a full time role in the Sky team once he finally realises hes past it.

““We call him [Abrar] Harry Potter in the dressing-room because of his glasses and because he is a bit of a wizard,” said Nixon, after watching Abrar on television from his hotel in Karachi”

Shame we didn’t have a Malfoy vs Harry Potter face off.

Well. Some suicidal batting from Pakistan. Although again good captaincy to hold Robinson back until it started reversing.

9 down now.

Great bowling performance. This is another interesting 'I wonder what they'll do here' point isn't it because there's no need to go at six an over and risk wickets in this position. I expect they'll try anyway though.

England still languishing in 7th out of 9 in the test championship.

8 wins and 8 losses. The 7 out of the 8 wins coming in the Stokes era. It would be pretty shit if they didn't make the final.
